Hit the spring trails with Trivium Racing for one of the most beautiful trail races in Piedmont. Northern Trails is a North Carolina tradition starting and ending at Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC! This is a great beginner race for new trail runners, a fantastic prep race for those gearing up for an ultra, and a perfect goal race for those looking for a fast time! Runners and ruckers can choose to race the 5 Mile, 10 Mile, or the 17 Mile option. This race is also part of the North Carolina Trail Mega Medal Series where four races in the local area have finisher medals that will connect to form a Mega Medal.
This early spring trail race challenges participants to run, ruck, or hike through the scenic trails along Lake Brandt and Lake Townsend. Over the years, racers have experienced it all—snow flurries, rain, and sunshine—making Northern Trails one of the most unpredictable and exciting trail races in the Piedmont. No matter the weather, this race is the perfect way to kick off your season and test your limits.
Whether you’re a first-time trail runner, an experienced rucker, or a seasoned endurance athlete, Northern Trails offers a challenge for everyone. Many runners use the 17 mile distance as the perfect prep race for an upcoming ultra or as a spring A race to push for speed on the trails. Others enjoy the 5- or 10-mile distances as an approachable way to get into trail running or to enjoy the camaraderie of the trail community.

The 10 mile trail race was mostly single track, out and back with a small loop at the halfway point. There were a lot of up and down portions so that the effects of the 500 feet of loss and 500 feet of gain were easier to handle mentally. This year, there was a huge rainstorm the night before the race, right up to the start time. This made the trails very wet, muddy and slippery. Since the race started and finished at a high school, there was tons of parking. The race is also one of a series of 4 trail races where the finisher’s medals will all connect to form a big spider web. The shirt is a short sleeved tech shirt.
