What an intense course. Even as an experienced runner, I had a rough time with the down hill and then the immediate intense uphill afterwards around mile 6-7. There were hills throughout the course, even at the finish line. I also did not enjoy basically running in a neighborhood the last few miles, when I heard the name North Shore Classic, I would have thought the course would’ve been a lot more towards the lake. Besides that, it was decently ran and the medal & swag was solid.

Pleasant neighborhood race

The course is lovely, you only repeat one small section. The other review said it was flat… It was not! There is a bit of elevation here and there, and one hill! It was more hilly than my usual neighborhood runs. I thought the course was fairly picturesque, for a suburban race.
Post race hot dogs and non-alcoholic beer… I’d give one more star if it was real beer.

I typically don’t run road races anymore, but I found out I was going to Chicago and looked on RaceRaves to see if there happened to be any races for the same weekend and found the North Shore Classic. It’s about 30 minutes North of Chicago in the suburbs. The course was very flat, and the tree-line streets were pleasant. I had anticipated some running along the SHORE, but alas, there are only two brief glimpses of the shore during the run, which I found somewhat disappointing. The race wasn’t overcrowded, and we were started in waves about 3 minutes apart, so the runners were pretty spread out. Plenty of refreshments along the way and lots of cheering and support from the locals. It was an enjoyable race, but definitely not something I would fly to Chicago to do (unless I can get RaceRaves founder, Mike, to do it with me next time!). The tank shirt had a cool design but was rather snug. This may be more my issue than the shirt’s issue, but it is definitely a bit smaller than my other race shirts. And the finisher’s medal was impressively large, leaving me feeling a bit like Flavor Flav as I walked back to the car. All in all, a pleasant run with some nice swag at the end!
