This race is not well known and doesn’t have a huge crowd, but I’ve done it twice now and I love it. There’s plenty of parking that’s very close to the start/finish line, so it’s super easy to shed layers or whatever you want to do before and after the race. The race starts in waves that are only a minute or so apart. It’s mostly run on streets, through a parking lot, and on wide paved paths, but there are some sections that are on dirt trails through some natural areas. I never got stuck in foot traffic and only had to do minimal weaving. There was a good bit of out and back on the course, which I like because there wasn’t much passing going on, so it was fun to see other people. There were mile markers all along the course. The entire race is run in the Boyd Lake area, so lots of great scenery. Towards the end of the half marathon, runners meet up with the 10K runners, but the crowd is spaced out so it’s not a problem. After the race, they served up delicious pancakes.

I really like this race. It’s got a great local family feel to it (my kiddos were able to cheer me on) and the lake setting is really cool. I saw the mountains while running on the turns and throughout the course and was able to take it in.
Rain or shine, I’ll keep coming back. Such a great event company, race-director and thought out setup.

This was my 2nd year running and it was a challenge. The weather was super gnarly but I still had a great time. The course was well marked (just like in years past) and I loved the post race pancake breakfast.
These guys always put on good events (I’ve raced some others) and I am looking forward to signing up for next year.

I enjoyed all the twists and turns on the course and liked the post race food. I’d definitely race this again especially hoping for better spring weather.
Weird Course but pancakes were good
Very strange course.. lots of out and backs and random u-turns. The 10k runners ended up Stuck behind slower 1/2 marathon runners on narrow trails. Super confusing. Good swag though … MORE

I was so excited for the race, the swag was so cool! That’s where the above and beyond stopped. The course was…. Quirky at best, a confusing logistical nightmare at worst. And it did err on worst. I should have known what I was in for when, upon arrival, the half marathoners were running a loop through the parking lot as part of the course and the RD have a pre race “course guide” to the 10k. I had a sinking feeling then that the course was going to be either overly complicated, without good signage, or both. It was both, with zero mile markers save around mile 5.3 where I should have turned but I saw a “mile 1” marker. This is where things went awry as there was no other signage or support and many went the wrong way. We finished about .05 short but when we went to tell the RD about the logistical issue so he could get people out there to direct, he argued with us. There were quite a few who had this error. I placed third in female finishers overall but left as I felt I didn’t deserve this due to the wrong finish. I likely won’t be doing this again, quite disappointing.

The race director communicated well and all the staff and volunteers made the whole morning run smooth
I loved running along the lake, being able.to see the mountains and passing spots on the course more than once. It gave my family a chance to cheer for me in multiple locations.
I’m signed up for this year and am looking forward to it. This is a great local race!

This was a great local race. The venue had a ton of parking that was really close to the start. The race course was well marked and the event organizers really cared about athletes and spectators having a great morning. The mountain views and accomodations nearby make this really out of towner friendly too. I made new friends at the inaugural event that were from Wyoming!
