The NCRC Classic Half-Marathon & 10K Races are considered to be some of the Triangle area’s premier distance races. Both the 10K and half-marathon have USATF certified “out-and-back” courses that start on paved road, transition through crushed-gravel and the hard-packed bridle trails of Umstead State Park, and finish on pavement. Both the 10K and 13.1 courses officially close at 10:30 a.m.
The course is mainly in Umstead State Park and closed to vehicle traffic, however the park will remain open to the public. The first and last mile of the race are on city streets with some traffic. The course is out and back, you will finish at the same location you started. The first and last mile of the course is on pavement. The remainder of the course is on the multi-use use trail in Umstead Park. The multi-use trail is wide gravel road graded and compacted to be fairly smooth. The race does not use the single-track dirt trails.

The hills seemed long. What goes down, must come back up! I struggled on this race. Scenery was nice. Umstead park, so in the woods. If you like woods and hills, this is the race for you. It’s a smaller race so there were only 5(maybe 4) porta potties and medals were made of light wood. I don’t think I’d do this race again.

I enjoyed the group awards but the after race snacks were a little lame.
Overall a good race experience that let me know I have more training to do.
