The NC VSAP 22 Miler, 22K & 2.2 Mile Ruck in September will be a time to honor the Veterans that have died by suicide. We will start with the AVG parachute team and then lead out by a local veteran motorcycle club. Along the route will be memorial posters of those that have died by suicide. Say their name as you pass by so they are not forgotten.
The purpose of the VSAP Series Organization is to raise awareness for Veteran Suicide and also by supporting organizations that provide Veteran Suicide Prevention resources or services. We also encourage and facilitate fitness activities. This running race is a part of a three-event series which also includes a 2.2 mile swim and a 464 mile bike ride from mountain to coast.
For the run phase of the VSAP event series, you will have a choice to run 22 miles, 22K, or a 2.2 mile ruck through the rural scenic towns of Eastover and Wad. Look forward to not being in a city setting but instead enjoy a vast array of farmland, green pastures, and plenty of livestock.
Upon finishing the races, you will have several food trucks to choose from. Both 22 mile and 22K participants will have a slice of pizza and a cold beverage on us.
At the finish, you will also be greeted by our photographer. Those photos will be uploaded to this site within a few days and be searchable by bib number so be sure to wear your bib in the front so that we can pick those up and categorize them for you.
The NC Veteran Suicide Awareness And Prevention race benefits Gallentfew and Mission 22.

I ran the 22 mile option of the VSAP. VSAP stands for Veteran Suicide Awareness and Prevention. It was a very worthy cause to run for. The course started and finished at a local baseball field and was quite rural. Runners should be sure to carry water/fuel with them as there was not a lot of course support. It was the inaugural race, so I would expect to see improvements next year. Overall, a worthy cause and a great long run if building for a full marathon.
