The Navy Ten Nautical Miler (NAVY10NM) was the first foot race to be officially sanctioned by a national governing body for track & field, long distance running, and race walking in the United States to be based on nautical miles. The desire is to see this event become a world-class, national-scale event on a par with races like the Marine Corps Marathon, Air Force Marathon and Army 10 Miler. The event is being coordinated in association with the Memphis Runners Track Club, the national governing body for track & field, long distance running, and race walking in the United States.
WHY 10 NAUTICAL MILES?
This unique race distance represents the distance from a ship to the horizon line. Runners gladly take on that challenge to commemorate the work of our US Military. For you landlubbers, a 10 nautical mile race is similar in length to a half-marathon.
Much like planes, the Navy Ten Nautical Miler event team performs best against the wind. The team is excited and eager to present the runners a truly amazing race experience. will kick off with a commemoration for the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Midway and a flyover from a WW2 aircraft at the start line.
This will be followed by an exhilarating run along a NEW COURSE winding through one of the finest Military Golf Courses in the world as well as the largest Solar farm in Tennessee! And after several nautical miles of scenic Tennessee roads as the final nautical miles count down participants zoom pass not one… but two historic Navy Airplanes, and through the inside of an actual Airplane hangar at the Millington-Memphis Airport just a short distance to the finish line. Just before the rounding corner to the finish line runners will begin to hear
all the friends and family waiting to cheer them on for the last quarter mile until they cross the finish line and receive the NAVY10NM ANCHOR and move on to the recovery area and to one of the best post race parties on the planet.

I decided to do this at the very last minute after seeing a friend post she was doing it her 4th time. Drove 5 1/2 hours the day before. The expo was kinda small as it was the first race since 2019 but packet pickup was smooth and easy and the swag was nice.
I hooked up with a 2:30 pacer and she really pushed me and I was so thankful as I usually run alone and there isn’t a lot to see along the route.
Race support was amazing along the route with plenty of potties, water, and Gatorade.
The post race food was AMAZING!!!! So much to choose from made to order waffles to pulled pork sandwiches.
The medal is beautiful and the volunteers made it all worth it.

The most notable thing about this race is the oppressive heat. The group that runs this race did a very good job creating an atmosphere that celebrated both active duty military and veterans alike.
The course has a few small bumps (hills) but weren’t too difficult . there wasn’t much scenery, but is was quiet and peaceful.
The finish was easy to navigate and the food was almost as impressive as the medal.
Every veteran should consider this race at least once.

We flew into Memphis from California. We arrived late on Friday so we missed the expo. If you fly in and plan on Uber-ing to millington….think again. In a city of 1.2 million…there was ONE driver available to get us to the race at 5am! Beware! I would’ve appreciated a note on that u fee the race website or something. The ladies at bib pick up, race morning were very helpful and kind. There is NO gear check and bags are NOT allowed on base~~~no hydration packs either and it’s HOT. I do not understand the no gear check thing. I guess if you have a car, you can leave items in car but it’s quite the walk to parking unless you get there early. The production seemed to be strong from the morning on. Not much “NAVY” to do with anything which saddened me as my son wanted to do this race for that fact alone. The base we ran through was basically residential housing and don’t blink or you’ll miss it. The course is flat and boring but nothing can help that. Not much shade and it’s HOT and HUMID this time of year! There was a Navy water bottle and some sponsored items in the sling pack provided that were cool. The medal was great! The finish had ample 4hr timing but per the usual was lacking energy the later it got~again, not much can be done about that BUT the expo food had somewhat closed and other shops inside hangar were closing well ahead of four hour mark. So, there’s that. A great shirt was provided. Overall, it’s a race to do once. Proceeds go to a great cause in helping support the area’s Naval community. That was the best part of the whole thing. Can’t go wrong there.

I ran the 10NM as a pacer. It’s always been a bucket list race mainly for the odd distance and because I come from a navy family.
Course: the course is a little boring and flat, which is expected. The base no longer has an airfield so there aren’t many things to look at besides buildings and a few airplanes that were pulled out of storage. The organizers do a great job of adding as much military stuff as they are allowed to.
I would definitely recommend it for those looking for something new. Also for those interested in military history/honor. The medal is very cool (typically a gold anchor). Great food options and opportunities to purchase other merchandise.
Millington is close to Memphis so there’s some things to see & do there.

Expo – small but fits the level of the run. Friendly people most runs this size have no expo so it’s a bonus
Swag – tech shirt, can koozie, thermal tumbler, navy lanyard, sun block, misl flyers
Run – ample parking. Expo is open on run day early start 0600 gun time. Field – about 1400 participants Course – flat with a few small short inclines. Starts on the open side of the Navy base passes by the golf course and a small lake through the country side then down a couple of “main” roads, turning into the secure side of the base through base housing then down another road exiting the secure side back to the insecure side to the finish. Not much to look at on base, it’s a small admin type base. Finish line offers water, sports drinks, and fruit. A cool wet towel was handed out at the finish along with your finisher medal, an anchor. The expo is still open all vendors are still present along with several local restaraunts providing food, doughnuts, pizza, waffles, BBQ, chicken sandwiches, soft drinks, water, and sports drinks all provided. Awards are a military coin which is a unique award. If you win an award you also get a free printed picture before you leave and a free download of the award pic. All runners get a free download of your pic in front of the event backdrop of you took one.
In closing. Good run worth the trip to Tennessee for a unique distance and medal
