This was my choice for Michigan and there aren’t many choices. Overall – it was a great little race. I flew into Marquette, Michigan which was about an hour drive to Gladstone. A tiny airport with only 2 flights out and in per day. The logistics of the race was the best part! I stayed at the Terrace Bay Hotel (also the only hotel in town) where the packet pickup was and also where the race started. Swag was an ugly shirt and race bib – no expo. It was in the bar of the hotel. I also ate dinner in the hotel, and it was OK. The race started at a reasonable time – 8:00 am for the half and 10K and 7:00 for the marathon. The course was along Lake Michigan, and it was beautiful. Also ran through a park, a campground, through the town and back along the lake. The temperature was in the 70’s not bad for this humid Tennessee girl. Crowd support was very minable but at mile 9 – supporters handed out cold towels which changed everything. No after party to speak of and the medal was no big deal. It was a good choice for a July race.

A very small race with a beautiful course! Running along Lake Michigan was a highlight for sure. Overall, a mostly flat course. It was VERY hot and there were 7 water stations on the half route. Could have used 1-2 more. The cold wrap halfway through and cold towel and the end were AMAZING! Nice participation and winners medals. Pretty lackluster finish line with an orange, banana and breakfast burrito. Water and 2 beer options as well.
Overall a very solid small race with some great scenery and nice volunteers!

I’m a Yooper and would not have thought about MISH for a race I would sign up for. It was all in all a mediocre half. My friend did not like the amount of time spent in the highway and roads for the full. It was well organized and I did place in my age group which has never happened before. Little options for post race nutrition. Nice medal.

I stayed at the race location start which was super helpful literally walked out my door and there was the start line. Very small race with great race pace group. Route in the middle of the race was a little confusing and since there were so many turns I feel like the signage could be better. After party was not much to speak about but that’s ok I just wanted to get in the shower as it was very humid the day of the race.
Great place to run in Michigan
Nice flat course with great scenery around the lake. Very peaceful quite frankly. Enjoyed all the staff and volunteers throughout the course. MORE

I needed Michigan and this was it.
Very small race, no thrills. They needed several more water stops and porta johns on the course. The volunteers were very friendly, and guided you where to go. MORE

Adequate pre-race communication.
No pre-race expo.
The race shirt, while a tech tee, could have been better.
Nice medal.
Starts and finishes at a small resort.
Great scenery as a large portion of the course is on a paved trail at the top of Lake Michigan.
Ran a large portion of the race in a downpour that included hail and lightning so I don’t know that I got the full scenic experience.
The course is super flat for those looking for a PR. If I wasn’t dodging puddles, I may have had it.
