This would have been a beautiful race but who would think it would be one of the rainiest races I have ever run and it was in California! It was kind of miserable but I love a challenge. Despite the awful weather the race went smoothly. The medal was nice and there were a lot of post race snacks. My shirt size was on back order but once it was mailed to me I loved it, very nice tank top. This truly is a beautiful course and really want to do it again without rain whipping in my face.

I would do this race again. As far as small race productions go, it really like this one. The course is mild and the scenery in nice. If you wear “mermaid” gear, pre-test the clothing so you don’t get chaffed. These Mermaid athletes are fit, so its a great experience to run with them .

The course is fairly simple. Easy and flat. First part is Fiesta Island (not very ‘party’, ha!) … it’s actually pretty desolate though it is all along the water. Then it runs thru the park, past the finish area and thru some neighborhoods. I did notice toward the end the mile markers were quite off and the course was 0.3 short on my watch (typically courses are a bit over since no one runs perfect tangent; very rare for a course to be short).
Overall, this is a nice race. Not frills as far as swag or food though the necklace is a nice touch.

This race has some great scenery all throughout, from start to finish. We start at the Shores near Sea World and make our way all around Fiesta Bay with panoramic water views every step of the way. The only residential area is a few miles later in the course, and even that is a great time, as many locals come out on their lawns to party, cheer, and offer mimosas 🙂 One issue was that the last three mile markers were misplaced, so one mile seemed much longer than it was, while the last mile was much shorter to make up for the incorrect placement of the previous mile. This is a huge issue for a pacer, which I was for the three hour group. The finish, at a different set of Shores, was picturesque, and we received a lovely mermaid necklace. Adorable race worth it.
