I would do this race again. As far as small race productions go, it really like this one. The course is mild and the scenery in nice. If you wear “mermaid” gear, pre-test the clothing so you don’t get chaffed. These Mermaid athletes are fit, so its a great experience to run with them .

This is a smaller run that I anticipated. There were only 300 people running the whole half marathon. I enjoyed the location, T9 and Mermaid Series, but I would probably do the 10K or their trail run next time.

Not my best, but I will do it again next year. This is a great community race. A little hard to start since everyone (5K. 10K & dogs) all start together but its a nice mix of trail and pavement and it does spread out. Only wish there was 1 or 2 more water stands

This course is essentially going straight down and back on PCH with one neighborhood hill loop. You can see the water but not the beach making it a dull run scenery wise. The set-up of the race and expo is nice but if this wasn’t part of the Surf City Challenge series, I would never have done this race, nor do I plan on repeating it. That said, I took 20 minutes off my time for a new PR so maybe there is something to be said about boring.

The location was beautiful; we had a nice marine layer covering us for most of the race. The course has you running along the beach but still has variation in scenery with the harbor and the Queen Mary. There are hills but most of it is flat and quite manageable. I am ready to try again in 2018.

Great way to see the community, and enjoy the local park. We ran from the YMCA down to the lake and back. Because there was both a 5K and 10K, the trail got crowded and hard to pass but still an enjoyable run. I run the 5K course for training now.

While waiting for the race to start, we got rained and hailed on. Starting the race soaked through and with wet shoes made it hard to not get blisters but the scenery made up for it. Great run, not too hard of a trail. You see the coast but it isn’t a boring beach run like Surf City. Of the Beach City challenge races, this is the best. High recommend first time runners try this race.

This race was all about your surroundings. Seeing Disney at night was cool, and the characters were fun but if you wanted a photo you sacrificed a lot of time. Take the pre-race arrival time seriously, as getting to your corral can be time consuming. People in costume make it fun, but be prepared to wait a long time before passing the start gate if you are in any corral after “C”
