To start off with the 2-mile race course: it really couldn’t get much better. The course starts on a hard dirt path but it doesn’t affect performance or stride as the dirt section has a steady downhill, as does the entire race. After the first half mile on the dirt section, you come to another steady downhill into the finish line, with a turn to the line being your only turn the entire race. The course is perfect for a PR.

One downside is the course is a bit short (~1.95mi) while the 4-miler was a bit long (~4.08mi) – should be an easy fix. You are also running along the shoulder on a road they don’t shut down. It’s a small race so I wouldn’t expect them to shut the road down as it would cost some $$, but if that sketches you out I wouldn’t recommend this course.

The only downside was the race production, as the morning bib pickup was a bit hectic and the course being short threw me off a bit. I also could’ve done with a cooler t-shirt because I love the holiday race tees, but this one wasn’t my favorite style. It also costs extra to purchase.

Let me start by saying that every Run Stillwater race is well ran, easy on the bib pickup, and seamless getting to the starting line on the bus system. I have never had a problem with grabbing my bib, getting to the bus, parking, or getting to the starting line with time to warm up. Every race production is 5/5.

When it comes to 5ks, the Run Stillwater races have 4 good races and 1 poor race – the 1 poor race is the Lift Bridge 5k. The course begins right off of the Browns Creek Trail on a sidewalk and starts with a steady 75ft uphill first mile right into a neighborhood with a handful of turns. Right at the second mile, you hit a nice 30ft uphill before a flat portion into the finish line. Lift Bridge is basically the highest point in Stillwater so it’s hard to include downhills, but the course is absolutely brutal compared to the other Run Stillwater races.

I would recommend this race if you enjoy tougher 5ks / don’t care much about time. Huge thank you to Wild River Running for the bib!!

Growing up in MN, I’m honestly surprised I hadn’t raced Grandma’s weekend. Since I ran the Milwaukee full in April, I decided to do the GB Half and was pleasantly surprised. The bib pickup was seamless and I was also able to enjoy an unlimited pasta lunch for $20. The venue was more than I expected and significantly better than TCM – lots of gels, running clothes, booths, and random vendors handing out free stuff.

The race itself was honestly a bit tougher than expected and you never have a truly flat road until the last mile. Steady headwind for the first 7 miles off the lake, luckily, the sun was to my back. Rolling, steady hills thru the first 8 miles and then the only big road with Lemon Drop before a steady downhill into town. The t-shirt was very cool but I was missing the free socks that they apparently gave out in the past. Overall, happy with the PR but I’d have more in me on a fall/winter HM.

The 2026 Milwaukee Marathon was seamless from head to toe – besides getting a parking ticket when picking up my bib. The bib pickup was in the Baird Center which was easy and had a small site of vendors, mostly useless stuff but for a first-time marathoner it would be fun to walk around.

Getting downtown on race day was easy and I was able to get dropped off a block away from the race. The start had plenty of port-o-potties and areas to warm up.

Once the race started, the hill around mile 2 was the only extremely daunting part of the course. Overall elevation was around 650ft on my watch so nothing terrible. Miles 5-15 involved an out and back on the Oak Leaf Trail, a bit lengthy and boring as we didn’t see anyone cheering throughout most of that section. The wind coming past the Third Ward made the last 5 miles tougher than they needed to be, but the crowd support turning on mile 25 was great. Water and Gatorade at every station and well spaced.

Can’t write this review without mentioning the incorrect spelling of “marathon” on the back of the medals… IYKYK.

Writing this review under the Phoenix race although I competed in the Tucson race. This is one of those races that exists solely to profit off of you – nothing special added in, the swag was awful, finishers medals were average, and if you placed… you got a pin that said “half marathon” or whatever you ran. Anytime you see a race put on by Five Star, run.

I used this race solely as a gauge of fitness for my marathon training since I was in the area and it was relatively cheap. The course was a DOUBLE OUT AND BACK on a trail in Tucson… what the heck. You also had to carry your own fuel (if you were going for time) because they didn’t have anyone at the hydration stands, just a big jug of water that you’d have to fill yourself. The race also started at 9am MT which if you have any common sense you would never do – was the race even put on by runners or just some corporation looking to make a quick buck? At least the course was on a paved trail which made it somewhat easy with minimal hills.

Overall, do not do any Five Star races unless you happen to be in the area and want to test for time. They’re poorly organized, cheap, and not designed with the runner in mind.

The Fox Trot 5k is put on by the local Stillwater running store, Wild River Running. To save money on the entry fee, there is no t-shirt included with the race. The pre and post-race is at Trinity Lutheran Church, so you don’t spend a lot of time waiting outside. The post-race snacks were great and all donated by the community – same with the awards! Turkey and pies for the top finishers and a pot luck for random runners, so expect some goodies for Thanksgiving!

Overall, a great start to your Thanksgiving day and a race I hope grows in the future. The best Turkey Trot 5k if you’re staying around the Stillwater area!

The only downsides of the Philadelphia Marathon weekend were the packet pickup and the security before entering the starting corrals. Expect long, long wait times for both.

However, the racing itself was awesome! You go all throughout Philly, see all the sights (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the river, etc.), and the course itself isn’t too difficult besides a few solid hills at the end. The medal and t-shirts were sweet. I would love to do this race again but I would give others a try before doing so.

Paced the 1:30 group for the half marathon at the Twin Cities Hot Cider Hustle. Even though I was prepared for this race, the hills were still killer! I was two weeks out from the Twin Cities Marathon and could still feel it a bit in the legs. The course was pretty scenic but could easily run over depending on if you get lost or space the route out a bit.

It was fun to volunteer at but I wouldn’t recommend this HM if you’re going for a goal time.

This is a very respectable 5k course with a few rolling hills and a trip into downtown Stillwater. The course begins by the Boom Site and starts with a weird loop where you end up passing everyone that started the race a bit slowed and the rest is down on the side of the road blocked with cones. There were two things I could do without:

1. The road wasn’t completely blocked off. Although we had the shoulder blocked, cars still flew right by and you wouldn’t have the best time running with a group.
2. There was maybe 200m of grass you had to run on right before the finish line. I understand there wasn’t really another area to put the finish line, but I wasn’t a huge fan of this.

If you want a (cheater) PR in the 5k… run this course. 200ft of loss right down the new St. Croix Crossing bridge into Stillwater, all shaded after about mile 1.5. This race also brought out some really competitive runners this year as 5 individuals finished below 16, many more below 16:30.

Although I wouldn’t consider this to be my 5k PR, I did improve my time by about 30 seconds due to the downhill. It’s never an uncomfortable downhill and easy to coast if you’re going quick or slow.

Only thing I could do without was the handful of turns in the last 400m.

The Lift Bridge courses have room to improve mainly with all the turns throughout the course and the brutal hill right before the finish. I ran the 5k and was thrown off by how often we had to turn, the weather didn’t help much either. The old course going into Bayport was much better – arguably the best one Run Stillwater had.

Being from Stillwater, Run Stillwater hosts the main running events you’ll see in the city. This year, I believe they made some changes to the 5k and 10k courses and I thoroughly enjoyed the 5k course they had us on. Finish right by Pioneer Park with a nice crowd waiting for you. Lake Wobegon was a bit of a last minute choice for a spring marathon but I do not regret it at all. Packet pickup was small and located in the church at the end of the race; pasta feed for $10! I stayed in the Rodeway Inn down the road and did my warmup to the buses at the church. The bus took a bit to drive up as it is a point-to-point, but the bathrooms at the starting high school were nice. The race went on the trail for 25 of the 26.2 miles so don’t expect to see anything great if you’re a city runner or need scenery while racing. The post-race meal was awesome – pizza, snacks, cookies, Gatorade, and more.

Peticolas was one of my favorite spots in Dallas so of course I had to bring all my friends to their 5k! The course was quick with minimal turns and no hills at all, the only downside is the heat and humidity. The post-race beer and awards were also a great touch, this was one of the coolest medals and plaques I have ever received from a race.

Whether a strong runner or you’re just there for the beer, I would strongly recommend supporting this local race!

If you’re looking for a premier mile race in the Twin Cities, look no further than the Night of Miles. Put on by MN Distance Elite, the Night of Miles is a pro-style mile race on a track against some of the best amateur / semi-professional runners in the Metro. Bib pickup was seamless, the pacing lights were a great add, and it was a ton of fun watching the professionals race in the last heats of the night.

If you’re a quicker or slower runner, they do a great job of pairing you with your speed when you fill out registration. The top finisher in the first heat finishes in the 7min range, the top finisher in the last heat will finish in the 4:15-4:20 range. They also have a variety of booths (Nike included) at the bib pickup!

My mom ran the Twin Cities Marathon two times back in the 1990s, two of the three marathons she ever ran. She was diagnosed with ALS back in October 2023 and has been slowly losing her ability to do a lot of typical things. I have always been a bit of a runner throughout high school but didn’t take it seriously until the past few months and decided to train – I got the opportunity to run this race in front of my mom and entire family! What a better spot to do it than the Twin Cities – beautiful weather, beautiful course, packet pickup was seamless, and so many participants cheering you on!

This was my first race back into running and it was a great start as I began my journey. I used to run back in high school and did minimally throughout college, so getting back into this with the Hot Trot was a lot of fun. The merch was okay and the course was very easy as it had little elevation the entire time – I just wish it had more shade but the early start certainly helped.

Not a very competitive field but still a great time to get out and run around Whiterock.
