Jacksonville State University and the Little River Canyon Center are pleased to announce its annual half marathon set to be held this October. Possibly one of the most scenic half marathons in the country, the certified course loops 13.1 miles on paved roads, starting and ending at the Little River Canyon Center.
Starting at 8:00 am, the first five miles of the run will follow the Little River Canyon National Preserve’s incredibly scenic and sometimes challenging rim of the canyon, as the remainder winds through gently rolling farm country including Randy Owen Drive and his famous Tennessee River Music Hereford and Angus cattle ranch. Randy and Kelly Owen are often on hand at the 6 and 8 mile water station pitching Fig Newtons, energy Gu and drinks.
Proceeds go to outdoor education programs and local conservation efforts at Little River Canyon.

I would highly recommend this race, especially if you are looking for a challenge. This is a nice smaller-size race, it’s affordable, and is very well run. Located on the rim of Alabama’s most beautiful canyons, The Little River Canyon Half Marathon is perfect for those looking to run and sightsee.
Bring the family, rent a cabin, and enjoy a nice race weekend.

This was a beautiful, but very challenging course. Constant hills and lots of full sun, especially towards the end. Temperatures were high this year, which made it extra challenging. It was a very small race, but the t-shirts, medals, and post race food were top notch. It was not chip-timed, but it was small enough that gun time was probably just as accurate. It’s a little off the beaten path, but if you’re willing to get there and you’re up for a challenge, it’s a great race.
