Walk to the start line of the Lakeside Marathon from the Landing Tahoe Resort Hotel which is the Expo site, you are responsible for your own post-race transportation from Incline Village but there is a $30 bus back if you sign up at the expo or are online when you register. Hopefully, your wonderful spouse will pick you up. The last bus leaves at noon.
A support crew is strongly suggested for your transportation needs, encouragement, nutrition, and picture-taking. The Lakeside Marathon course starts in California at Lakeside Beach at 6230′ and goes up to 7000′ at Spooner Summit. It then returns to near lake level at 6300′ and finishes in Nevada at Incline Village. There will be at least six Aid Stations along the marathon route, approximately every 4 miles. The mile markers read “miles to go. “
Friday’s Lakeside Marathon is joined by the Nevada Half Marathon at near Spooner Summit – the half way mark of the Lakeside Marathon course. Both of these courses end at Incline Village. The Lakeside Marathon is basically run a few hundred yards in CA and 99.8% in NV, meaning it can be counted for either state in your quest to run all 50 states. This race is also the first leg of the Tahoe Triple Marathon.
There is a different finishers medal for each race, each day, and a finishers license plate holder. There is an overall award for each of these races, but no age division or other awards will be given to these boutique races. Each runner gets a Tech Shirt and souvenir Marathon travel bag at the Expo to use for future travel.

This is the first race of the Lake Tahoe Trifecta. They tout this run as being “mostly downhill,” but I didn’t find that to be true. It started going uphill in mile 2! Overall it wasn’t bad (and definitely worth it for the views) but don’t expect as much downhill as they say. Turns were well-marked except one, but they drilled that one into us repeatedly so we didn’t miss it! There were only 3 water stations and they were spread pretty far apart, so make sure to bring your own hydration. The time limit is not as strict as they say. I could have gone faster but stopped to take lots of pics, but even with that, plenty of people were allowed
to finish and finished after me. The race director bombarded us with emails which seemed to contradict other things, but even he titles them as “nags.”

Was told the first 7 miles were downhill (well 2.5 down then 1 mile up), still a very fast course, altitude will get you if from a sea level state, bring a water vest as there were only 3 water stops, good hot dogs and water at the end, very nice medal. Beautiful scenery, took lots of pictures
