Out and back on a course I don’t care much for. Very flat, very straight, very boring. Only portajohns were one at the start (really?) and one at the turnaround (again, really?) The medal was exceptional, even if it was small for a half, and had some really nice easter eggs to a local celebrity runner who’s made his final victory lap. The shirt was a nice light long-sleeve and there was a great hoodie for purchase as well. Supposedly this is the last running of this race but there is talk of resurrecting it in another form. Ideally around the great little towns in the area instead of an out-and-back on the rails-to-trail which already gets so much usage.

The race is on the Prairie Spirit Trail, which is a hard packed limestone surface. Because it is a rail to trail, the course is flat. The race is in November so the weather can be cold. The year I ran the race the wind around mile 11 to 12 was brutal. I will run the race again in 2024.

This was a great running race: Organized, course layout, swag, information, etc. The Prairie Spirit Trail was fun to run on. Since it’s an old railway path, the largest hills were nothing more than very slight inclines. Scenery was awesome and it consisted of mostly farms, fields, and trees. Course stemming from downtown Ottawa was nice, too, including city parks & neighborhoods. This particular day, the sun was out but the temps were well below freezing with gusting winds coming from the north. So heading south, weather was cold but not bad. At the turn-around heading north, temps & wind became a force to endure. All-in-all, this is a fun run, and if you want to complete a full or half marathon before the onset of winter, this is a good run to participate in.
