Looks like a PR. First two miles are net uphill with a few rollers along the way but the third mile will let you more than make up for it with a great downhill that has just the right slope to not burn out the quads. The pregame layout had more types of pastries (sweet AND savory) than I could sample along with the standard granola bars, coffee, bananas, satsumas (tiny oranges) and a few other things. A few vendors and massage services available (free), but the entire Chicken & Pickle is rented out so there may have been more food options available for purchase. The shirt was a nice warm long-sleeved cotton and bells were passed out so we could heighten the festivities. Not much in the way of crowd support and no water stations on course. I get it’s a short course but something at the top of the hill at mile two marker would have been nice. I heard a number of people grumble about that but I didn’t think it was a huge thing. The medal was decent, probably on the high part of mid-range for a 5k and highlighted the 40th running of the race. I had other places to be afterwards, but this very much was a race you could hang out at for a while with full use of the facilities at this private event. Great race for a great cause. I’m not sure who does their timing/web updates but seems to be not loaded up as of the following morning when I wrote this. When the standard (at least in these parts) is within a few minutes of crossing the line it’s on the website, to not be able to confirm my PR is a bit of a disappointment, but not enough for me to drop a point on production when so much is going on correctly with this race. I’ll be there for sure next year.
Great run by O.P. AMC/Chicken & Pickle

Fun course by AMC at shopping center. No on course mile markers, which I like to see in advance to motivate myself to pick up the pace in a way a gps can’t. I hate to take off a shoe for that, but it would have been so easy to do on this relatively easy lap. Mile two was somewhat rolling hills. Fast course. If I hadn’t been down the day before I could have really knocked it out, as much of the last mile is slightly downhill. Everything was open at Chicken and Pickle. Coffee and Pickleball on the house. GREAT energy from the volunteers. This is a do again race.
