Jeff Galloway 13.1 Race Weekend features Atlanta’s best, fastest, and most convenient race course! This half marathon winds you through Midtown and takes you to some of Atlanta’s most famous landmarks. An enjoyable course that finishes in historic Piedmont Park.
The course will be open for 4:30 hours or until the last participant finishes. If participants are maintaining a slower than 20:36 minute-per-mile pace, they will be asked to move to the sidewalk between miles 7.25 (10:27 AM) and 8.25 (10:48 AM). After mile 8.25, participants can move back onto the road and will have a lane all the way until mile 11, when they enter Piedmont Park where there is no vehicular traffic.

Overall this was a nice race weekend. I did the Double G Challenge (5K Saturday and half marathon on Sunday). Both had the nice feel of a small local race. Course support was great, and I never felt lost, which as a back of the pack runner, was really nice. The race website isn’t the best, but the team is really quick to respond to any questions you have via email. My only complaint would be that there weren’t very many bathroom options pre-race for either the 5K or half marathon. There were only 3 portos near the start line for the 5K and 5 portos for the half start line. The course overall was very hilly. Running through the park was nice. Volunteers and cops along the course were also nice and all friendly. I did this race to check off GA from my half in every state list.

It’s a city race, but with modest numbers. This means it has the advantage of being able to choose from a variety of hotels nearby (for out of towners) and use transit to get around, without having to compete with 20,000 people to find your place in the flow of the race. I’m not one of those folks who thrives on huge crowds, so this suited me well. I was pleasantly surprised by an off-road recreation trail section about three quarters of the way through that was very pretty and a nice change of scenery. Ending within Piedmont Park was also quite lovely (despite the dormancy of the time of year).

Nice Race - results posted quickly
Plenty of water/aid stops. Course had some unmarked potholes. Race results posted day of the race. Nice medal and long sleeve technical shirt. MORE

I didn’t know Atlanta was so hilly! The race was one of the best organized I have participated in. Jeff Galloway obviously knows what he is doing. My only complaint is running near the finish at mile 10 and realizing you still have 3 more miles to go to get there. The medals are great. The post race refreshments are top notch and the throw-away jacket was a great touch
