This is the 4th trail race of the 2016 40k/80k Sasquatch Racing Tour Pass Traliblaze series. If you have completed previous 3 races: Rattlesnake Ramble, Sasquatch Scramble and Tick Trailblazer, you can receive a series medal which can also be used as a can opener and a belt buckle.

If you have read my other review from this series, you would also know that all their races come with a scavenger hunt theme along the course as well as a handy well-designed half marathon finisher medals. They are by far one of the most innovative design I have received this year.

The beauty of a trail run is that you get to escape from the cityscape and submerge with nature. This race is located in China Camp State Park in San Rafael, CA. Being next to the San Francisco Bay, as you descent from the hill, you actually get to see the East Bay from a distance. With every descent you come across in any loop race, you have to work for it to earn the childlike transcending freedom, and this is no exception. From mile 1 to mile 2 you have a 400ft elevation gain, which is also known as the badger hill. If you are not warmed up yet at the bottom, you surely will feel the burn at the top.

After some setbacks with course markings being tempered with in previous races in the series, everyone is required to have a course cheatsheet carried with them at all time. This race was well-marked and the volunteers were at the right spots to monitor the course. I am pleased to be able to run the course without worrying about getting lost.

Overall, I am happy with the experience and would recommend this fun trail racing series to anyone.

P.S. There are always a free beer and a robot dancing party at the finish line waiting for you. ;D

Kudos to Sasquatch for adjusting to things (jerks) they can't control!

Trail run with three distance options. 250 runner limit. Entire trail was wide enough for passing except maybe one or two 10 foot stretches. Nice perks like post race massage, candy and snacks, shoe loan by saloman, nice shirt, woodalion that looks cooler in person than it did in pictures. Great efforts from orgainzation to make sure people knew details and logistics about race weeks leading into run and race morning. Another fun aspect that is different at this run was the scavenger hunt for prizes. Which leads me to a con: the staggered start times mean that if you run the 10k or 5k you won’t have an opportunity at being the first to come across the prize. The course markings were mostly clear but was a few areas where it can get a person confused, especially since there was a stretch when runners from different distances Are on same trail running at each other. The finish are had picnic benches which was nice. I plan to do again.

Pre-race warm up was fun and helpful. Course was beautiful and marked decently. The aid station had Gu which is a huge plus! The two beers afterwards was awesome! The recovery food was pretty good but could have been amped up a bit. Overall I liked it and am going to do another race with Sasquatch Racing.

Another great race by Sasquatch Racing, and carrying all the benefits of that team: a free organized practice run on the 10K course (usually about 3 to 4 weeks before the race), post-race beers and massages, nice technical tees. All in all, great race production, a nice turnout, tons of perks.

While the course here was well constructed, I just want to warn you about running in China Camp. First, the climbs are STEEP and they keep going. I mean, so steep that I couldn’t run down the hill, I had to ride the brakes the whole way. Another thing that complicates those ups and downs is that there are portions of the China Camp trails that are just rock face – I watching my footing, because I am a clumsy runner, and any fall would have resulted in some deep gashes. With all that being said, there are some nice views, the trails are all really beautiful, and while China Camp may not be my favorite location, this is still a really good race!
