If you are looking for a relatively flat and easy course, this one might be it. I think many runners would see a finish time around their average or better. Many runners, but not me. Still trying to get back in running shape and this particular weekend was hot early in the morning. The course is a bike trail around a greenspace in town. Not much to look at scenery-wise except the trees and dirt in the middle (although I did have a rabbit dart in front of me). It’s 8.5 miles around the bike path, then turn back for the final less than 5. It is cement running trails with some going under the overpass. The most challenge aspect is dodging the hundreds of bikes that are using the trail while the run is going on. They did an excellent job of distancing runners and the aid stations were stocked with 20oz bottles of water – which made it nice as it was mid 80’s. I drank 4 bottles along the run. My time was overall better through 10 miles, but the last 3 I slowed down significantly due to the hit. If you are already in good running shape and don’t mind the heat this would be a solid run for you.

I signed up to run the Half marathon at the Hippity Hop. Morning of the race I got dropped off at the wrong location. And I found out the race was 3 miles away from where I was standing. My ride was long gone. So, what’s a runner to do? Run to the starting line of course! By the time I got to the right location, the Half was already 30 minutes in progress. The 10k shotgun went off 10 minutes prior to my arrival and the 5K runners were getting ready to take off. So, once again, what’s a runner to do? I choose the middle of the road answer and ran the 10K. To my surprise, I crossed the finish line at a decent time and got placed third in my age group. My first race award ever! Hip Hip, Hooray! The race was a lot of fun. There was a decent size group of runners present, the weather was heavenly and the atmosphere was friendly. Runners had to share the road with non-runners (which I don’t really like). But it’s definitely on my list for next year and I intend to run the Half this time (now that I know where the starting line is located).

this was my second year doing this race and was awesome. This course is hilly and I’ve done it a few times but haven’t been able to “conquer it. However, the staff makes it enjoyable. SLR events always have enough water stations and volunteers cheering up. Everything is well organized and runs smoothly at their events. My favorite local running company!
