You think you’re good? You think you’re tough? Come try this course… IT’LL EAT YOU UP! The Cannibal is a 5/10/15K run or a 5K walk that starts in beautiful downtown Hannibal, and proceeds south along the Mississippi River and straight up one of Hannibal’s toughest hills, the infamous Lover’s Leap, before returning to the downtown area. The Cannibal is a U.S.A. Track and Field certified course.
Along with the Cannibal, there will be a Fun Run for children 10 and under. Every child will receive a medal and a cool t-shirt. Children can run 1/2 K (.3 mile) or 1 K (.6 mile) on a closed course.
All proceeds will benefit Hannibal Regional Foundation’s Today.Tomorrow.Together Campaign, which is raising funds to assist in the renovation and expansion of Hannibal Regional’s Surgical Services. Hannibal Regional is dedicated to the health of our region and in our quest to continue our standard of excellence in healthcare, investing in new services and capabilities for our community is paramount. The expansion of our surgical suites and equipment at Hannibal Regional is a crucial element in meeting all the health needs of our region.
The Cannibal is held during National Tom Sawyer Days, which offers an assortment of activities for the entire family.

Second year doing this one. The race is fun yet challenging and coincides with Tom Sawyer Days. Overall it’s not too hilly… until you get to Lover’s Leap! It’s TOUGH!! It was hot, and I was pretty winded by the time I got to the top, so I took a couple of minutes to catch my breath, drink some water, and enjoy the view. There is a good portion of the run along the Mississippi River, and there are a good amount of water stations. The shirt has been nice both years, but the medal is only so-so. We plan on doing the anniversary one in a couple of years.
Nice race, will come back for 30th

I have ran this 5K three times as I live an hour from Hannibal. It’s a cute town with a big summer event going on that weekend, so you can plan to stay the weekend there and tour Mark Twain’s boyhood home, hike, take a riverboat ride.
The race is well put on. Shirts are nice, medals are on the cheap side. The race is down main street and near the end you get to run up Lover’s Leap where the Cannibals meet you. Be careful running back down, several people have fallen with a face plant and EMS getting them. It does take place during the wonderful Missouri summer so be prepared for humidity.
This year I am stepping up to the 10K. Always up for a challenge.
It WILL eat you up!

Very well produced race in a very small town. Many small BnB to stay in town before and after the race. Course was rolling hills, two laps through and RV park and a gargantuan hill (maybe a 1/2 mile long with a 10% incline), did I mention it was HOT. Anyways a great town and a great crowd, I will have to run this at least one more time!
