The course is serene and beautiful! This is a very small race, so there are not a lot of crowds, but the scenery is pretty and peaceful. There are some very challenging hills, both up and some steep downhills. There are plenty of aid stations and volunteers.
I recommend staying at the Callaway Gardens Resort, as I think this added to my enjoyment of the race. The hotel is within walking distance of the start/finish, and it is a very pretty hotel to stay in. I also enjoyed the on site restaurant and ammenities.

This was the most beautiful course I’ve ever done. The whole course runs through the gardens, so you are in the woods or by the lakes the entire time. Could not get enough of the scenery! The volunteers were great! There were snacks at every stop, which is not typical! The hills ate me alive though! I was not prepared for that at all! I do train on flat ground so maybe that’s why but oh man those hills! The course is two half marathon loops around and there were hills like 12 of the 13 miles and it was pretty brutal the second time around. I would highly recommend this race for how scenic it is but just do some hill training before 😉

This marathon is run entirely inside a giant Garden area called Callaway Gardens. I kept thinking how nice it would be to see everything in bloom, but in January, everything just has a very dormant look. This is a very challenging course with continual rolling hills. It’s a very small event. Honestly, I would look elsewhere for your Georgia Marathon. I did this one because it fit in my January schedule. My memory of this marathon will always be the nice little restaurant I found near by. They had a retired couple (late 70’s) playing the piano and singing. Then they walked around the restaurant chatting with the guests. I’ll always remember their warmth and generosity.
