A well-organized race in San Antonio, but there’s no escaping the Texas heat. The race kicked off at sunrise around 6:45 a.m., yet as the morning went on, it only grew hotter. The two-loop course packed in over 1,000 feet of elevation gain, with some climbs so steep I had no choice but to hike.
The route is a mix of trails and concrete paths. While the trails aren’t particularly technical, the steep grades call for extra caution.
The organizers did a great job preparing for the conditions, with icy cooling towels available at every aid station—a lifesaver in the rising heat.
Given the limited race options during the summer months, this event is a hidden gem. It’s a solid challenge, and I hope to see it attract more runners in the years to come.
