Loved the race in the oil capital of the world – the rolling hills were brutal, but the weather was perfect. The course was well staffed with plenty of support, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much alcohol being handed out by spectators during a race. Everything from beer to Fireball shots was on offer. I had switched from the marathon to the half, which placed me in the last corral (D), but it didn’t really matter since I moved up near the front of the line. Honestly, it’s a nice morale boost to be overtaking runners from the faster corrals. Tulsa itself was beautiful, with its Art Deco architecture, great food, and friendly people. ‘Gathering place’ park is a must visit.

It was a hilly race with significant elevation gain, made even tougher by wet, cold conditions and a Nor’easter expected to arrive later that day. Still, it turned out to be a beautiful run along the sea and past the mansions that line the Newport coast. The only low point aside from the uncontrollable weather was the delay in getting a bus back to the parking lot. It wasn’t entirely the organizer’s fault, a medical emergency forced returning participants to be redirected to different pickup spots in the cold. Ultimately, amid the confusion, we decided it was easier to walk to the lot rather than wait for the bus.

A well-produced race in the heart of Amish country. There were close to 2,000 runners in the half marathon alone, yet it was immaculately managed—from bib pickup to the sumptuous post-race meal.

The medal, made from a horseshoe, is one of my favorites. If medals are your thing, this one is a must.

The course itself is hilly, especially if you’re not used to running inclines. There were several rolling hills with about 550+ ft of elevation gain, so make sure to train for the hills if you’re planning to run this race.

A well-organized race in San Antonio, but there’s no escaping the Texas heat. The race kicked off at sunrise around 6:45 a.m., yet as the morning went on, it only grew hotter. The two-loop course packed in over 1,000 feet of elevation gain, with some climbs so steep I had no choice but to hike.

The route is a mix of trails and concrete paths. While the trails aren’t particularly technical, the steep grades call for extra caution.

The organizers did a great job preparing for the conditions, with icy cooling towels available at every aid station—a lifesaver in the rising heat.

Given the limited race options during the summer months, this event is a hidden gem. It’s a solid challenge, and I hope to see it attract more runners in the years to come.

This is second so called trail race and boy was it hard. Its a hard race due the heat at the beginning of the race and elevation gain but well worth it. I was able to run the course before the sun light faded. Being a road runner it would have been lot harder for me if I had to run some part of the course on the mesa in the dark.
