The DAV 5K returns to DCR Fort Independence at Castle Island to celebrate Veterans Day together this November! Race one of the “fastest and flattest” race courses and stay for our famous “post-race feast” at the DAV 5K Boston. #VetsRunBoston
We are thrilled to be back at DCR Fort Independence at Castle Island and cannot wait to see you and all of our DAV 5K Boston friends and family on Veterans Day 2023. The DAV 5K Boston race committee is working with our municipal partners at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the DCR, State Police and the City of Boston to ensure a safe and responsible family-friendly event experience.
Due to overwhelmingly positive feedback, the DAV 5K Boston team will ship race kits, including your runner shirt and bib number, in advance to all participants to streamline your DAV 5K Boston race day experience. This makes for a more enjoyable race day experience as you can arrive at DCR Fort Independence already wearing your shirt and bib number so you’re ready to race and have fun with your friends and family!
The DAV 5K Boston is a run, walk or roll that thanks those who served and raises awareness of the issues our ill and injured veterans face every day. This event helps further the mission of the DAV Department of Massachusetts to ensure our injured heroes are not alone on their road to recovery.

The DAV 5k Boston raised $30,000 for Veterans.
The runners gathered inside Fort Independence on Castle Island in Boston prior to the start. Then a color guard led the runners to the start line, asking the runners to follow based on expected finish time. It was the first time I experienced a start like that, which I think worked very well. I ran my race in my expected time and did not have to do a lot of dodging around other runners, which seems to happen frequently in races. Each event (5k hand-cycle, 5k run, 1 mile walk) was started by the massive boom of a Howitzer cannon and finished inside the fort. Other than the final ramp up to finish line inside the fort, the course was flat. The shirt was a long sleeve tech.
