The Dahlgren Trail Half Marathon is run entirely on the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail which is a converted railroad bed and provides solid footing with little or no roots. This trail is flat, smooth, and fast with a variety of surfaces ranging from dirt, gravel, grass, and pine needles.
The course is an out and back that starts at the Bloomsbury Road Trailhead and heads east from the start for ~6.5 miles before turning back. The volunteers from Friends of the Dahlgren Rail Heritage Trail do an excellent job of ensuring that the trail is in peak shape for the race!
Cash prizes, great competition, good food, and awesome swag all make this a memorable event. And because we understand it can be a bit chilly in February 😉 we will be starting the race at 9:00 am to let it warm up and let you get a little more sleep.

I really enjoyed this trail race. It’s on a old railroad line and is a well groomed trial. I did a run-walk & had a fab time. It’s a small race, yet the organizers pay attention to all details. Great course support and hot soup and donuts at the end. Smaller races have more “soul,” a real local feel & I enjoyed meeting local runners. Trail races rock! Don’t miss this one.

Mostly flat out and back on packed pea gravel. Easiest trail race as you can’t get lost, and there is very little to trip on or sprain and ankle. Even the ties that stick up a little have been painted green so you can see the trip hazards. Close to a lot of historic sites.
