The annual Cypress Run includes a 5K & 10K Run and a non-competitive 5K Walk. All races begin and end near the Cypress Civic Center Green and loop through the flat, fast and picturesque neighborhoods of Cypress. This All-American, small town certified race course includes electronic timing and popsicles at the finish line. Prize money will be awarded to the top three overall finishers in the 10K for both male and female, as well as age division medals for both the 5K & 10K races. Once the Run is over, visit the Cypress Community Festival, which features 200 vendors, live entertainment, and a beer garden.
This race is part of the very popular OC California Race Series! Challenge yourselves to participate and finish in consecutive order in any combination of three timed 5k/10k/Triathlon out of four upcoming events, one in each of the participating cities of Cypress, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach, and receive a one-of-a-kind coveted medal! The Cypress 5K Walk is non-competitive and does not qualify for the OC Race Series.

Awesome PR course “if” the sun is not out. OC race series, so the only medal you receive is “if” you qualify (have to run do Race on the base and Run Seal Beach). Well produced and if you are a sub 6min mile runner you could make some money.

I reviewed this last year and nothing much has changed. Luckily it wasn’t hot today like previous years but unfortunately we were given a standard juice Popsicle instead of a Big Stick,
Something I did not mention last review is that this run pays out a good amount of prize money to the top finishers.

This is a nice civic run that has a heightened importance of being part of the OC California Race Series along with the hugely popular Los Alamitos Race On The Base and the Seal Beach Run. If you run all three consecutively you pick up a nice medal.
The run production is above par for a smaller event like this with Chronos tracking and the popular Rudy Novotny announcing. The expo and swag are virtually non-existant. Some info on upcoming runs and some civic minded booths. You receive a bag at check-in (leftover from Race on the Base) but you do not receive anything to put inside it.
That being said this is one of my can’t miss runs – I guess it was the small town feel that attracted it to me. You meet at the Civic Center but actually start around the corner on a residential street by the school (plenty of porta potties here). The starting announcements and the National Anthem will be difficult to hear (I assume they have to keep it down due to the neighbors). The first mile is on slightly major streets and mile 2 is run on winding residential streets among the houses of Cypress. The run is very level and would be considered very easy if not for the last 1.2 miles. The last part of the run is direct sunlight with no shade. It’s July and it’s always a hot day.
But when you survive that and cross the finish line in lieu of a medal you receive a Big Stick Popsicle. Perfect!
Due to the heat hydration is very important and there is even a water station at the start (which will be used again for those running the 10K). Take advantage of it! There is also a station at the half way point.
I did this run on an hour and a half of sleep and it was not a great showing for me but I am sure I will be back next year!

The 10K is two loops around the 5K course – which is my least favorite kind of 10K. It’s in a pretty residential area so there’s not much in the form of cheering or scenery unless you’re passing the high school. I remember thinking there weren’t enough water stations, but that might have been because it was crazy hot out & it was my first 10K.
I was bummed that there is no medal for running this race on its own, only as a part of the OC race series, and the shirt is cotton & nothing special.
I will give it to them, it was very well-organized & the popsicle along with banana/etc. at the end was very worth it. It’s not very big and the course is flat, so I can only improve!
It's HOT outside in July;Popsicles rock!

The race is very well organized and went off right on time. Parking is pretty good and the staging area is on grass. The only problem is the weather – it’s really hot in California in July! I registered for the 10K, which is actually 2x the 5k. So, when it was time to start the next lap, I decided to sprint for the 5K finish instead! Best decision I’ve made in years!
