I love this small to medium sized, country-vibe race. Not too crowded, not over hyped. The course is absolute beautiful – most of the time, we have vineyard on our side, and some time we also have river flowing along with us. The temperature is around 65F, 30%-ish of the course is shaded, so very suitable for the run.
I arrived 1 and a half hour before my race. So I can just park maybe 100m before the start. And I picked up my bib on race day morning, then I took a nap, fueled myself and walked to the starting line, its very convenient.
The course is very flat, my race is 30k, I only remember one uphill that lasts about 30 meters, that’s it. One thing to note is that part of the course, about 3 kms, we need to run on the road shoulder, and the road is not closed to either direction.
Registration fee is around $90 for both 30K and half marathon. Very reasonable.
I’d like to compare this race to Napa Valley, both are picturesque, and fast. And this race is much less known.
Also there are very few 30k races, so I absolute recommend this race for marathon training, etc.

The Clarksburg Country Run is a local favorite. This year was the 50th anniversary and the organizers had some extra goodies for entrants. Paul Reese organized the first event half a century ago and so they gifted two of the books he wrote about running across the US when he was in his 70’s. In addition, the 5K runners got a finisher medal for the first time. Other than the much-needed rain, the event was great as usual.

The CCR is a popular race in the Sacramento Area. There are runners of all abilities and the production crew are true professionals. Parking can be a bit hectic. It is important to watch for potholes on the paved roads that surround the orchards. The scenery isn’t spectacular; but it is pleasant. Currently, this is my favorite event.

I live close to the event; but the winding 2-lane river road that leads to Clarksburg can get clogged. So, I was concerned about my arrival time. Parking feels limited because of CCR’s popularity. You may have a trek to the starting line. The pasta post-race meal is okay and the sweat check is great. November in Clarksburg makes for good running. The road race company and other event staff are helpful and professional.
