Are you ready for an exciting weekend full of activities that will leave you breathless?
The Adirondack Marathon, Half Marathon, and the 2 & 4 Person Relays will take place around the picturesque 9-mile-long Schroon Lake on Sunday. On Saturday, you can participate in the 5K & 10K in Chestertown, or bring your little ones along for the Kids Fun Run in Schroon Lake.
The Adirondack Marathon starts on Main Street (Route 9) in the town of Schroon and heads north. Runners will complete one full loop around Schroon Lake on paved roadways (except for one half-mile stretch of gravel road in mile 3). The first four miles are rolling or flat. Miles 4-12 feature short, but steep hills along a two-lane country road on the east side of the lake. Miles 13-18 are flat, along the east shore. Then, there are long, gentle hills on Route 9, leading north to the finish in the town of Schroon.
The half-marathon will be held on the second half of the full-marathon course. The first five to six miles are flat, along the east shore of Schroon Lake. Then, there are long, gentle hills on Route 9, leading north to the town of Schroon.
After the race on Sunday, you can head to the finish area and enjoy some refreshing drinks from Paradox Brewery to celebrate your amazing achievement. Don’t miss out! Join and create lifelong memories in Schroon Lake.

– To get my only gripe out of the way, this year’s medals were not medals. They were hat pins featuring the course map on a flimsy piece of plastic, easily broken or lost and unremarkable. As an idea it would have been fun as an extra item offered in addition to a real medal. Really kind of brought the finish down a little being handed it.
– Schroon Lake was absolutely gorgeous, stayed in The Lodge there which was very accommodating and welcoming. They were able to give me an extra late checkout, charging me a late fee rather than another day’s stay.
– I would recommend spending a few days there before the race, the shops on main street have lots to offer and the folks there are a fun conversation.
– The course was very difficult, rolling hills for the first half but then gives ways to much calmer rolling hills for the second half. The course is paved roads or pathways.
– The volunteers and cheer crews gave me new life every few miles and I loved the personal touch of providing a list of runners to volunteers to cheer us on by name!
If they fix the medals, I could absolutely see myself making this a staple race.

Running this amazing race was so much fun. The fall colors were dazzling. The weather was gorgeous. We were bussed to the 1/2 point of the marathon on the opposite side of Schroon Lake. The aid stations were frequent and well stocked with water and Gatorade. Coke was added for the final few stations as well as a small energy snack. So many wonderful spectators cheered us along. It felt like the entire town had turned out, and they had the runners’ names matched to bib numbers to personalize their encouragement. The vet who played his trumpet was very inspiring. The energy generated by the young people through the local college really helped me pick up my pace. Wendy, our pacer, was awesome! She helped me with a strategy to get through the long rolling hills. After race refreshments were varied and plentiful. If I lived nearby, I would race this again.

Beautiful views throughout this course though the hills are tough. Good swag, we got a fleece zip up which I still wear all the time. The finish is at Schroon Lake. I loved taking off my shoes and wading in after the race.
Not huge crowds or a ton of spectators.
