2019 was the 10th and final running of the A2A Marathon!

The uniquely beautiful Marathon point-to-point course begins at the historic Turner Falls Overlook in the Arbuckle Mountains. Rolling hills wind downhill, intercepting the Half Marathon course beginning at the Murray Co./Carter Co. line. The courses continue downhill together through the scenic countryside of the foothills until the Marathoners turn east for an out-and-back leg through the award-winning Bar Nothin’ Horse Ranch near Springer. Marathoners return to Hwy 77 to re-join the Half Marathoners for the straight stretch into Ardmore, enjoying an overall elevation drop of 538 ft. over the first 15.5 miles of the course. Shallow rolling hills lead back into Ardmore until runners turn west at mile 20 for a final out-and-back to the lake inside beautiful Ardmore Regional Park. Save a little energy during the downhill early on ’cause the gently rolling terrain in the park will feel like mountains at that point in the race. However, your efforts will be richly rewarded as you finish to the cheers of fans at the 50 yard-line inside nearby Noble Stadium.

Okay since running this race they stopped doing it. Was bill as a scenic route however it was a run down and old two lane highway. Some of the race was a straightaway of 9 miles. I could see from one aid station to the next. Sorry it disappointed me as I thought I would see some great scenery.

Small local race. First 9 miles down, next 4 up. 2019 is the last year so I’ll probably run it again but I know a lot won’t. It’s a straight course with very little fan support except the volunteers at the water stations. Plenty of water/food stations

Small production (benefiting local needs) compared to major races, which was very nice for my first. Let me just warn you that the first 3 or so miles are downhill. Not up and down. Just down. After that, you have long rolling hills with small flat stretches in between. It starts in the mountains and runs to Ardmore. I’ll probably always run it but I have friends in OKC that won’t ever run it again because of the hills.

One of the cheaper races I have done. I was disappointed in the expo, race website, race swag, the notion of it being a fast half, and the medal. First off their was only one vendor at the race expo. Secondly their website was not user friendly and hard to find any race policies. Third they changed the race jacket to a long sleeve tee which was disappointing. Fourth there were a lot of hills in this race. Lastly the medal was okay, they could have done a better design for this race. There are a lot of runners who run for the bling. I was also disappointed for the winners for the races because they didn’t get a plaque rather a headband and a cup. I have seen 5Ks that do a really good job for their elite runners. I will say if you like a race that is very straight and not many turns, along with running in the country then this would probably be your race. This does go to a good cause so I’m not upset but thought they could have done a slightly better job.

This is a straight line race. Dropped off at the start line and run to the finish line. One straight away we were running in the Oklahoma wind and barely made it.
