The Suncadia Half and 5k event takes place on mostly well groomed paved and gravel trails with some unimproved dirt trail stretches. There are 2 loops to this course with the 5k loop being the start of the half. A couple miles into the half, runners take a turn and complete another loop before returning to the original loop to complete the distance.
The course is mostly flat with some downhill and one large uphill. The uphill stretch is run in it’s entirety once for both the 5k and half and is broken into two parts for the second pass by the half marathoners (the junction being part way up the hill). Enough about the hill though because it was not bad in the long run. It being held in August means temps may be pretty warm even at an early race time, but the water stations help keep runners hydrated.
Like all Evergreen Trail events, this was a great set up and production. The standard Evergreen coaster as the swag. There were events for kids to do aside from the activities already on-site at the Nelson Farm location. And, since this event is located within the Suncadia Resort footprint, it makes for a perfect vacation run destination!

The Soaring Eagle half marathon trail run consists of 2 loops on a very well marked route. The trails themselves are in great condition. As for the technical aspect, the routes are mostly flat with a few hills that aren’t too long or difficult. There are a number of spots with large tree roots or clumps of smaller roots that provide a nice introductory challenge for new trail runners. Overall this is a great trail run for all expertise levels and I would highly recommend for new trial runners.

This course offered such a great challenge form the immediate hill climb to the winding trails through the mature PNW forest. The set up and marking of the course were perfect as there were no confusion on which way to turn. There was some mud, but it’s February in the PNW so it is to be expected. Plus, the mud added some fun technical movements to the run! I’ll definitely attempt to improve my time next year!
