I signed up to see what XTERRA was like by starting with a trail run. Plus this was a nice little trip for us to Phoenix during the best time to go there. This race was very well produced, MC’d, and organized. The course was very scenic, and challenging with 2 very steep hills. There was long enough downhills at the end to get a good run in at the end. I will be happy to go back and do this one again.

These races are very well run and produced. They are done by triathletes, so the details are paid attention to. Very well staged event. NO cutoff times and very well done run course allows for first timers to complete their 70.3 or 140.6 goals. Great volunteers, plenty of aid stations. Only about a mile of the bike course was on sub-standard paving. The rest was silky smooth. The run course is flat as a pancake.

This event is well run and produced. The crew of athletes running the event are know what athletes want in a multi-sport event, and they deliver. Great volunteers, great aid stations and wonderful community support for traffic control along the bike route. The course is not that difficult regarding hills, etc., but the wind more than makes up for it. The swim venue can get really choppy if the wind is up, especially from the normal south direction. This event has hosted BIG names in the triathlon world when it hosted ITU Long Course Worlds a few years back, and USAT has used this event for it’s 140.6 distance National Championships. In 2019, it will be back to its “festival format” including duathlon, cross-fit, and Tri distances from sprint to 70.3.
