A PREMIER HALF DISTANCE TRIATHLON EVENT
Thanks for your interest in the Redman Triathlon. And for this statement’s purpose, specifically the Full Triathlon distance.
Since 2015, we’ve seen a decline in the number of participants in the Full distance, perhaps due to the abundance of tri’s now available across the U.S. and throughout the calendar year. In 2019, we expanded the range of events at Redman Weekend and saw new participation increase in all distances below the Full. Although we are choosing to not stage the Full in 2020, clearly the Full has long been the defining event of Redman and we deeply appreciate the level of passion it has instilled in triathletes over the years.
WHAT was DIFFERENT, what will now stay the same?
To our already successful Tri and Aquabike, we’ve now added:
- Sprint (Triathlon Only)
- Oly (Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquabike)
- Half (Duathlon)
Not only are we adding some distances and disciplines to the RM tradition, but we’re also going to stretch ourselves a bit and think a little outside of our own little box.
CROSSFIT
We partnered with Crossfit Exile and offered a weekend crossfit competition. It was a rousing success.
WHAT’S THE SAME?
Safe, organized event, great SWAG, the best volunteers anywhere, spectator friendly atmosphere, on-site food vendors, fun zone for the kiddos, and anything else we can muster.

These races are very well run and produced. They are done by triathletes, so the details are paid attention to. Very well staged event. NO cutoff times and very well done run course allows for first timers to complete their 70.3 or 140.6 goals. Great volunteers, plenty of aid stations. Only about a mile of the bike course was on sub-standard paving. The rest was silky smooth. The run course is flat as a pancake.

This event is well run and produced. The crew of athletes running the event are know what athletes want in a multi-sport event, and they deliver. Great volunteers, great aid stations and wonderful community support for traffic control along the bike route. The course is not that difficult regarding hills, etc., but the wind more than makes up for it. The swim venue can get really choppy if the wind is up, especially from the normal south direction. This event has hosted BIG names in the triathlon world when it hosted ITU Long Course Worlds a few years back, and USAT has used this event for it’s 140.6 distance National Championships. In 2019, it will be back to its “festival format” including duathlon, cross-fit, and Tri distances from sprint to 70.3.

The swim was great. Not too choppy but I liked that they started us with our age group opposed to everyone. The bike is a rolling hill and with the heat and inexperience, it ate me alive. The run was flat and there were plenty of aid stations. Great race!
