Every time I encourage someone to run a half for the first time, this is the race I recommend. I’ve ran this 3 of the 4 years we have lived here. I wanted to run the one other time, but had just given birth. I was able to bring her in the stroller on the 2019 race. This race has a gradual decline for most the race and then the last couple miles wind through the shade near the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. I have probably ran 15+ half marathons over the last 5 years, and Rock Tahoe is my absolute favorite. My one critique as that one year, I tied my quarter zip around my waist along with my bib number so I got no pictures and wasn’t able to view pictures to comb through, which I would have done. I was really disappointed because the photos turn out so great with the beautiful scenery.

I registered for the 1/2019 Dopey Challenge in hopes to lose the 65 lbs I gained from pregnancy as of 5/2018. Fortunately, I lost it all in 5 months. I foolishly didn’t train for these races. Although it was not a walk in the park, I was stunned at how well I did with no training. Between living at 5200 ft elevation and proper nutrition, I got through the weekend with barely being sore. You mostly run on pavement the whole race. Due to how dense it is with people, it helps to keep you mind occupied. I like to people watch. There is one stretch of highway to the ESPN Center that was killer. During the full at mile 11, I started pumping biofreeze into my shoes. I thought I was a genius. Towards the end of the race, I wasn’t sure how many more aid stations would be stocked with biofreeze so I over did it and my feet turned soft and pruned. That was dumb. My feet turned blue for a few days and I thought they would stay eternally cold. No matter what I did, my feet could not warm up. They then violently peeled and returned their normal temperature, but just a word of advice.

I ran this race in 2014 and 2015. There are nice views of Longview Lake and the second year, the weather was really nice for November in KC. There is one part of the course where you have to push up a hill. They clock that portion of the race and call it King of the Hill. This race started me on my escapade of half marathons.

I ran this half as part of the Harvest 39.3 half Marathon Series. Due to how long ago it was and running those races all so close together, it difficult for me to remember distinct attributes of these races. I also squeezed in the Longview Half the same weekend of the last race. We did get good photos. I recall goofing around a lot of the race so my time was terrible, but it was a blast!

I ran this race 4 years ago as part of the Harvest 39.3 (3) half marathon series. Its difficult for me to distinguish among the 3 races as they were all so close together in timing. We were featured on an advertisement the following year which was flattering.

I ran this marathon with running no more than 13.1 miles in two different half marathons. I goal was to finish without dying. It was a really hilly course. My husband and I couldn’t walk well for about 2 weeks. I don’t know why I felt this way, but I wanted my first marathon to be in my hometown and had a feeling I’d be moving soon. A couple months later we moved out to Reno, NV for work, but I am thankful I ran the KCM. It was a hard course.

Graduating from Mizzou, I remember being pleasantly surprised with how scenic the run was as I clearly didn’t experience these trails while attending. One of my favorite race photos was taken on a bridge through a park. The expo the day before was great and so is the post race celebration. I remember my husband and I were running/dancing at mile 11 and a volunteer jokingly said “You’re supposed to have fun, but not THAT much fun!” It’s a good race and my second half marathon I ran.
