Kristin Bond's Staging Area

If you like SWAG – this medal is enormous. However, the hometown series is not specific to Memphis and the medal and the tshirt are repeated at all locations. The shirt has all locations listed and you just have to tell people that you ran the Memphis one if you are into telling people that sort of thing. I was surprised by how small the race was. I placed first in my age bracket. That has never happened before. Being proud of my accomplishment I went to the website and learned I was also last in my age bracket. The course was in a pretty park and there were buffalo (or bison. I’m not an zoologist) behind a fence cheering on the runners. Other than that, there was very little crowd support. We ran two out and back loops and the pond we ran around smelled of dead fish in one section. That part was unpleasant. If you have nothing better to do on race day, its a nice way to move your body. If you are looking to compete in the coolest, most unique race of your career, the Hometown series ‘aint it. Wouldn’t go out of my way to do this again but still a lovely morning.
