The course is much hillier than i thought it would be! But the crowds were great, the volunteers were amazing. The military presence was awesome whether they were running, cheering, or volunteering. Watch out for the climb at the end! I didn’t notice the monuments so much on account of the torrential downpours. I think they should possibly look into moving the handcycle start time; the course was very tight with a single wave start and it was hard for them to get through.

Beautiful race along the water, followed by the Icelandic Culture Night. Basically the entire country comes out to party. There are distances from 3k up so the whole family can participate. Stay longer and get out of the city and do a bus tour to see the geysirs, waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes, and hot rivers and springs. Also fuel up with fresh lobster, whale, puffin, lamb, and horse. Amazing country with great people.

I grew up in the area so I was used to running on the canal (most people say running a marathon distance on the canal is like Groundhog Day) but I’d never actually run on the Appalachian trail. It was definitely rocky and treacherous on most sections, but good to get it done in the first 16 miles. The sunrise coming up over the South Mountain climb from Boonsboro was amazing. The aid stations were great with fantastic volunteers, and the ending was at my old Middle School with good food and warmth after 9 and a half hours in the cold and rain. The locals were great, either waiting along the canal to cheer or driving along Dam #4 road towards the finish, blasting radios out of their cars. I may be biased but best 50 miler ever.

I like the beginning of the race, crossing over the bridges over the river. I feel that the last half of the race has very little to see as someone who is not familiar with Chicago. It was a beautiful day except for the extreme winds before the start. The volunteers and water stops were great. Having pictures next to the fountain and seeing the sunrise over the park in the morning was fantastic.

I’ve lived in Houston 4 times in the last 15 years, it was nice to be on some home turf. I would say there were not enough porta potties at the start line, but it was very nice to have the GRB at the finish line so I was able to escape the rain while picking up my finisher’s swag and getting some food. Great crowd, and a lot of nice runners and volunteers too.

The start line on the bridge was pretty cool, the rest of it was not very scenic at all, and the finish line was very crowded, not easy to find snacks and drinks. Performance was as expected as I had just run Berlin marathon the week before and spent the week at Oktoberfest

Very well organized, large Expo. I stayed at a hotel that was listed on the website and it was right behind the start area and also had some orientation type things that were unaffiliated with the race to help out runners staying there. The breakfast run the day before at the Olympiastadion was amazing. An unbeatable finish and medal with the Brandenburger Tor. The spectators were plentiful and provided a lot of energy, plus private musical acts that were very regularly placed along the course. I definitely recommend.

This was a beautiful race along the coast in Delaware, running alone the boardwalk twice, and I especially loved running by the WWII towers and through Cape Henlopen State Park. I saw three large bucks cross the course going through the park, which was a little scary but neat. I liked the swag and thought it was very well organized, and the afterparty on the beach was very nice, with food for racers and spectators. I was able to relax and dip my feet in the very cold bay at that point. This was my first marathon.
