I always like to run over bridges and if you can’t be in New York, the Golden Gate Half is the great bucket list race to run across this iconic bridge. My expectations were met at this race from the hilly start around Ghirardelli Square to viewing the Golden Gate Bridge in the morning sun before reaching it and running across while viewing the city, hills and Alcatraz Island. After reaching the end of the bridge, you run down a trail and go under the bridge to the other side to make the return trip across. There are definitely a few hills on this run (we are in San Francisco) but nothing that bad. After making your way back, you run on some wide trails at Crissy Field before heading back to the finish at Ghirardelli Square. It was nice that the beer garden was at the San Francisco Brewing Co at Ghirardelli Square albeit rather crowded. I was able to get some souvenirs at Ghirardelli Chocolate to bring home too. All in all, a really great experience that I would definitely do again as there are so many thing to do and see while in San Francisco.

I ran the Long Beach Half Marathon on a beautiful sunny day and it was great to be back. There were a lot of people so it was quite busy from the start but we all kept moving at a good pace. The course goes over a few bridges so these are the hills but you run on a wide beach path mid way and finish up on a slight incline on surface roads so all in all a pretty easy course. We are right by the Convention Center and Aquarium of the Pacific aquarium so lots of great scenery plus you are right next to the busiest port (many ships waiting to dock) and also home to the Queen Mary. The beach path is where can gather your thoughts for trip down the home stretch. This run is especially fun for me as I lived pretty much on the course so I have ran on that beach path so many times. To get to the start I rode my bike and parked it in a secure bike corral provided for the bike tour so transportation was easy for me and it was nice to bike back home. If you like beer, the beer garden is pretty big with plenty of tables and if you are a legacy member you have your own area to sit and relax. Overall a great weekend of running in Long Beach as I also did the Saturday 5K.

This was my first time running the Surf City Half Marathon and I went all in and did the Cowabunga 1 Mile and completed the Cowabunga Challenge. This was also my third race for the Beach City Challenge so I was especially pleased to get my turtle medal.
I did not know what to think of this race since it’s mostly on the 101 but the course was great since you headed toward some neighborhoods and then back on the 101 so there were a few turns that kept the course fun.
Even with all the runners on the course, it did not feel that crowded except maybe in a few spots.
The volunteers were all great and the tech tee and medals were first class. Who wouldn’t want a surf board medal?
I’ll be back next year and signed up already for the Cowabunga Challenge again.
I would definitely recommend this race!

I always wanted to do this race but did not want to run the Half after doing the SD Half and Hot Chocolate 15K. Now with the 5K I can enjoy the North County scenery like Swami’s plus compete for age group awards and get all the swag (awesome medals and age group medals), beer garden with great choices and just a great coastal vibe and volunteer support. I’m already signed up for next year.

I rode the Long Beach Marathon Bike Tour for the first time and really enjoyed the course and event. Next year I’ll probably do the 5K on Saturday and bike tour on Sunday. I would recommend this event to anyone looking for an easy bike ride to do.
