If you`re looking for a PR, this is NOT the race you would want to run. However, if you`re looking for a small race with beautiful views and a challenge, this is it! The hills are brutal, but I loved it! Every aid station was stocked with bananas, GUs, and even some with much needed pickle juice, along with the usuals! The volunteers and race staff were awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed this race and would recommend it…if you don`t mind straight up/down hills! The only other drawback that I noticed was the lack of porta potties. There was one at around mile 2, and an outhouse somewhere after 14-15, and maybe one or two more scattered through where I saw a sign suggesting a restroom with an arrow, but that`s it. I was able to duck in the woods to stand behind a tree, but a woman may have more difficulty finding a place to go. The other issue with finding a place to go was that for a majority of the course you had a river on one side, and a cliff on the other, leaving very little options. Regardless, it was a well put together small race and I loved it!

This was my first trail marathon, which I have to say that I did enjoy it!
The trails were very rocky, with little areas that didn’t have roots and rocks, but it is a trail marathon, so I wouldn’t expect anything different. There was more elevation gain that I imagined for a Kansas race (2100′)! You are always going up or down, and the rough terrain made it impossible to actually “run”!

If you’re looking to PR or BQ, this is not the place!
If you’re looking for a flashy big finishers medal, this is not the race.
If you are looking to enjoy great comeraderie, this IS the place.
If you’re looking for a challenge, sign up for this one.
The medal was about as simple as it gets, hand made, which I thought was pretty cool!
Aid stations were few, but the ones that were there were well stocked with incredible volunteers!
Carrying hydration with you is a must!
All in all, great job on the race personnel and volunteers! It was different and fun!

This was one of my favorite races and location. Well organized, great aid stations, and nice expo! If you like a mid size race, you may want to consider this one.
I stayed at Hampton Inn on Washington and 24th. Plenty of nice restaurants within walking distance, and the bus pickup for the race is in front of the hotel. Perfect location. However, I do enjoy getting in a hot tub after a race (after a shower of course), and this hotel didn’t have one. But that’s not a big deal.

I was a very nice race and I would definitely recommend it.
Pros- nice scenery, smaller race, flat course, great volunteers!
Lastly, while at Jekyll Island, go to Driftwood Beach at sunrise! Absolutely beautiful!
Cons- not nearly enough Port-a-potties. Truth be known, you better plan ahead and be prepared to hit the woods along the course if you need to go! They were far and few between! Seriously!
The race is closer to 26.6 miles! I checked with other runners, and everyone showed the distance was off by about the same distance.
Don’t expect an Expo during a packet pick up. It’s just a bib and shirt pick up.

Everyone was very nice, and again, I would definitely recommend this race. Just bring a pocket full of TP for Con #1! Lol!

There’s nothing not to love about this race! Beautiful scenery, great race management and volunteers. It was just a fun place to run altogether, although my finish time wasn’t what I hoped for, but probably my favorite race so far! I’d suggest making a vacation out of it, as my wife and I spent almost two weeks from Kalispell/Glacier NP to Missoula! That one will be hard to beat!

There are some hills, but it’s not too bad, but just train for hills! With the course going through The Stockyards, I made a mental note and took my wife over to see this area of town, which she really enjoyed! So the course goes through some nice areas, neighborhoods, and the last section goes through Trinity Park.

My first time in San Diego as well as running a Rock and Roll race. Great job by the organizers and volunteers! Beautiful city to run in, with the exception of the interstate stretch. Around mile 21, there is a significant incline and at the most difficult part of a marathon, so by prepared! 🥵. All in all, I highly recommend this race, but be ready for rolling hills, which just adds character! Loved every minute in San Diego!
Side Note: San Diego has some great restaurants, so enjoy the carb loading!!😉

I loved everything about this race! The challenging course, the aid stations and volunteers manning them, race organizers, the town(s) involved, and the swag. I’ve ran one large races (Marine Corps Marathon), which was awesome, but it just didn’t have the “welcoming feel” like H&M had. I’ve even learned alot about the history of the feud, which is pretty interesting.
I’d love to see this race continue to grow to something even bigger!
If you don’t stay in Williamson/South Williamson, I’d highly suggest Pikeville’s Hampton Inn which is nice, with a parking deck attached and very friendly staff!
I would also highly suggest that you train for hills, humidity, and mud! 😉
