This was the hardest race, which I’ve physically ever done. It started pretty warm and humid. We had to run up and over Diamond Head after the 10k mark and again at mile 24. The race views are breathtaking. The first aid stations are plentiful and helpful. The aloha spirit is felt throughout the course. The swag was beautiful! The post race party was well managed and fun. Malasadas at the end of the race! I have never felt so proud of myself. The race expo is LARGE but well facilitated. There are over 15 minutes of fireworks at the beginning. The course is well marked. Amazing, bucket list race! Oh, they don’t have a qualifying time and they don’t sweep you. You do have to finish to get the medal and shirt. The merry mile the day prior to the race is really fun!

This race is SO much fun and they celebrated EVERY single runner. The whole weekend is full of family friendly events and the city of St. Pete Florida really shows up to contribute to the spirit of the event. There’s a tailgate zone for local run clubs. The race expo and post race party are epic and feature local cuisine and beer. The course was so lovely, epic view and well facilitated. It was just so so so much fun. The race announcers for this made a huge impact on me personally. I can not say enough good things about this race. The swag is absolutely gorgeous, and it’s the prettiest medal. It’s an easy course for those trying to get a solid time. The race collaborates with other major races in the area for some fun challenges, such as Gasparilla in Tampa, FL (just across the bay).

This course is facilitated by the Town of Celebration, close to Walt Disney World. It’s a runner’s race. The hydration and aid stations are well managed. Packet pick up is easy peasy. The swag is always phenomenal: typically a shirt, blanket, etc. I’ve received a Headsweats cap before. The course is beautiful and easy. It’s my favorite race in central/south Florida. I’ve ran the half several times and the full marathon 1x. It’s certified and a fast course which is good for any folks trying to qualify.

This race is excellent for those first time runners, who have proper training and feel prepared. I feel that runDisney is first and foremost a business, which gets prioritized over supporting the runners. I highly recommend runners commit to local races and races put on by cities/towns first so that their race dollars go back to races that prioritize the running community.

The Pros: 1) The expo for every runDisney event is epic and well stocked. The swag is always super nice. 2) The Pacing Team, facilitated by Jeff Galloway and Chris Twigs are so hype and helpful! 3) THE SAVING grace to the runDisney experience: the Race Announcers, the Race Entertainment Team, and the Disney cast members. They see when folks are having a hard time and they make every effort to encourage you. 4) There are solid, helpful hydration and aid stations. 5) Finish line and party are fun whenever there isn’t bad weather and they are forcing you to run in it and then rushing you to your car. It was chaos in 2024. 6) the course is typically easy but you’ll be running on the “disney highways” for the majority of it.

The cons: 1)The races are really early, and you have to be in your corral MUCH earlier. Anticipate LOTS of walking to get to the start corral. If you are using on site transportation, plan for the extra time and significant walking before/after the race. 2) If you don’t seed into the beginning corrals, the course gets really crowded. There is a time limit, and so those beginners who are in the back definitely feel the pressure from the sweep team. 3) The attractions and character stops are nice if you are in the front. Otherwise the lines get very very very long. When I ran recently , they cut the course in half, due to weather. This made everything much more crowded than runDisney in the past. I was not able to get any character photos. 4) Also, they prioritize who spends the most. Dopey runners get the focus. If you are only running one race, it doesn’t seem as special in the event. It’s a weird vibe.

I tentatively plan to run another runDisney race in the future but I will absolutely make sure to submit fast qualifying times to see into the earlier corrals to make the price point and registration stress worthwhile. However, I need a few years to get over the hard that I experienced for the 2024 WDW Half.
