I knew about the hills. I studied the elevation. I didn’t train for them nearly enough. Going over the Golden Gate Bridge twice on a clear day was the highlight.

Stayed downtown and walked or Ubered most places. Visited Alcatraz while I was there with the family. Make sure you buy your tickets in advance.

It took a few years to qualify but it was worth every minute. Stayed downtown at the Marriott Copley. Right across the street from the Star Market (Full size grocery store). Hotel is walking distance to the busses and close to the finish to Boylston Street. Walked to all the major sites including a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. The Under Amour store a block away will engrave your medal for free after the race. The store had some unofficial merchandise as well.

The race is outstanding. Busses were a little chaotic in the morning, but I arrived with over 1 hour to spare. The men’s option for a restroom was interesting prerace. The crowd support was great including Wellesley College. My time suffered due to the hills in Newton. I thought I was prepared but I was not. The final 50 yards was the highlight.

This is a great race for a BQ. One hill at mile 25 up a highway ramp. Otherwise, it is a point-to-point race along the water. I had a constant headwind the entire race or it may have been a PR.

Stay at a host hotel and walk everywhere. You are bussed to the start line.

Drove from St. Louis. Stayed downtown at a Homewood Suites downtown which was easy walking distance to Expo and Start/Finish Line. There was an Old Spaghetti Factory across the street. I ate there for lunch and walked around the corner for Pizza for dinner. Race day featured overcast skies and 30 degrees at the gun. These made for ideal conditions. I don’t remember one hill on the race. Decent medal. I wasn’t a fan of the shirt. That is the only complaint if that even counts.

This was one of my favorite half-marathons. I wish I would have run the full. Running over the bridge into Canada was great. Yes, I carried my passport just in case. You must have it to get your bib. Coming back to the US via the underground tunnel was eerie.

Downtown Detroit was great. Walked to all meals and a Lions game after the race.

This was a tough race. It was delayed several hours due to storms. I was impressed it didn’t get canceled. The downside was it got hot and humid after the storms. The hills at the park at the halfway point wiped me out. Running through Churchill Downs was a highlight. Good medal!

Stayed downtown and walked everywhere.

This is a must-do marathon outside of the World Majors. You run all over the DC area including the Pentagon, the Mall, etc. A Marine Lieutenant will give your medal at the finish line at the Iwo Jima Memorial.

I used the Metro to get everywhere during the week. Plan on staying a few days before or after.

Great medal and shirt!

Marathon X – I ran this race 8 years ago so my memories are limited. It was a rainy cold race. Stayed downtown with no issues getting to Expo or the start line. They gave you a small medal at the finish because the actual medals hadn’t arrived. The box must have weighed 10+ pounds when it was sent to my house. Make this your race if you need to knock Arkansas off of your list.

World Major II, Marathon IX – This was my first time running NYC. Everything is first class. The only negative is the amount of time waiting at Staten Island. It was cold and super windy.

The headwind during the race reached up to 40mph. I cramped up around Central Park. Passing Tiki Barber (NFL) was a highlight. It is a long walk to get out of Central Park and back to your hotel.

Marathon VII – This was a tough reason for me but not because of the course. It was hard to get ready for a night race from a nutrition and mental perspective. Plus, I walked probably 10 miles a day leading up to the race. The race is still outstanding. You ran down the strip to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and turned around and went to old town Vegas. However, after that it was desolate and in some sketchy neighborhoods. It is a flat track.

Rock n Roll only offers a half now. This is highly recommended just to run down the strip.
