I really enjoyed the Napa to Sonoma half marathon. You can add on the Rose 5k for an extra challenge if you would like. I’m not local so I opted for the half only and selected bib mailing.
Once yiu register, be sure to follow on social media. There were lots of posts getting you excited for the adventure ahead.
I was later offered to add on the VIP start line experience for a modest extra. I’m so glad I did! We were treated to a lovely juice, coffee and pastry buffet. We also had our own separate portable situation. We all know how great that is. Our little party was in the Cuvaison tasting room. If it had been cold, you would be nice and cozy inside. However, it was quite warm and I spent my time on the patio watching the hot air balloons floating over the vineyards.
The course. Make no mistake, there are hills. They were mostly rolling for the first half. There was good shade during this part. Most of your pretty vineyard scenery will be in this section. The second half was flatter, but little shade. It got pretty uncomfortable in the unseasonably hot temps. The aid stations offered cold water and electrolytes. Some of the volunteers handing out water even offered to pour some water over our heads.
The finish line experience was every bit as fun as the beginning.
The race takes over the Sonoma Plaza park. After crossing the finish line we were handed lovely pink, hot air balloon shaped medals, cold water and snacks.
I headed to collect a hoodie that I preordered and a magnet for my fridge. Next on to pick up my finishers shirt, which I love and will wear often. Then I picked up my wine glass. If you like wine you would have several wineries fineries to sample. Lastly, photo ops. I noticed that they still had plenty of the challenge awards, for those who opted to run the 5k and half. I had a race earlier this year that promised a challenge medal but had none by the time I finished. So well done N2S!
Once I cooled off and changed into my new shirt, we headed to a Pizza restaurant across the plaza. It was so yummy.
All in all, it was a great experience.

Disney Princess weekend does not disappoint. I ran all three distances: 5K, 10k and Half. So much fun running with thousands of your Princess (and Prince) friends. Lots of on course character stops if you are fast enough to beat the balloon ladies. Too bad they don’t put the princesses in the later miles, since those lines tend to be shorter. this year February was quite warm. Remember to pack layers since you never know. Park time is doable over the weekend just remember that your alarm goes off early to be on the startline bus at 3 a.m.

Cannot recommend this race enough. Pouring rain aside, this was a wonderful experience from start to finish. As you would expect, the Marines put on a first class event. So well organized, they plan out different options to get you to the start and provide excellent directions for spectators to come watch you along the way. Running in DC and Virginia in the fall… couldn’t ask for a prettier venue. And…they still send me birthday wishes.

Grand Tetons Half Marathon is put on by Vacation Races. They do an amazing job organizing the weekend. Camping is available, but we did an air bnb so my adult children could join us for a weekend in Jackson. Everyone ran the 5K on Friday evening and two of us ran the half on Saturday . The course is not difficult, all paved roads. However, you are at 6000 feet plus elevation so keep that in mind. You might want to arrive a few days early to acclimatize. You have a pretty good view of the tetons on course and they are front and center at the finish line festival for pictures.

Come for the run, stay for the scenery. Do you like Lighthouses? Lubec, ME has the eastern most lighthouse in the states. We rented an air bnb house so that our adult children could come and stay with us. House was walking distance to the ocean. Lubec is a small Northeastern town. Not a lot to do besides relaxing in your house, reading, doing puzzles. The race was surprisingly hard. 1000 feet of elevation gain and we got a very warm day. But the course on Campobello Island, Canada was beautiful. Your passport info is attached to your running chip so no problem crossing the border in and out of US/Canada. We fell in love with Maine. You will too.

We really enjoyed our Thelma and Louse weekend. First time visit to Moab. Spectacular scenery. Race can be run as a half or as a relay. Relay runners would normally be taken to/from the halfway point via boat on the Snake River. The year we ran, the river was too low. So we were passed by cheering ladies on the bus heading back to the start. Some runners camp, we stayed in a local hotel and visited the quaint little town of Moab. There are multiple national parks near by. We visited Arches on the day of arrival and a Dinosaur Museum on our way out of town. Great girls getaway.

This was a destination race for us. Cascade Locks is absolutely beautiful. Course runs through some gorgeous wooded areas. Shirt and medal were nice. Lunch was served at the finish line. We booked a dinner cruise on the river. The scenery was amazing. On the way home we stopped and hiked at Multnomah Falls.
I highly recommend this race.
