The day was gorgeous, mid 50s with sunshine. Everyone was smiling and the course wound through a lovely Chicago neighborhood, with kids cheering us on. The Chicago donuts at the end were excellent! And the race swag – the most comfortable, soft hoodie ever. Didn’t hurt that I PR’d either!

The race was early in the morning and cool, the course was fairly flat, out and back down Michigan Ave, with great views of iconic buildings and the Chicago river. Brunch and beer served afterwards, with Maggie Speaks playing onstage. Great laid-back atmosphere. Nice lightweight running pullover as swag. Going for the 10k next year so I can get a medal 🙂

My first trail race, and loved running through the woods. Course was a mix of shaded woods and open prairies, with various surfaces, from wood chips to dirt to grass to pavement. A few killer hills, and the later start meant it was pretty hot. The frozen towels at the end were heaven. My only complaint was the parking situation – we had to park in a remote lot and the way from the lot to the starting line was poorly marked.

I ran the race with friends and family, halfway hoping for a sub 1-hour race, but really just enjoying the fact that I could run the complete course with no aches or pains. Post-race festivities are always fun – just a great way to start the running season in Chi-town.
