I can not say enough great things about this race. Great organization, great communication, great volunteers, great crowd support and amazing scenery!. Some minor hiccups with the portalets at the race start, a crowded finisher area, and a post race party thats almost a mile from the finish line. This is a race I would run again. If you are looking for a Minnesota race, do yourself a favor and sign up for this one.

This was a fairly small race with less than 500 people total (Marathon and Half Marathon). It was located in a neighborhood that had some walking paths to Lake Houston, and the half is a two loop course.
For such a small race, they gave some nice swag including a long sleeve shirt, a gym bag and a hat. The medal is also giant at about 7 inches!

Confusing shuttle and barely making the race
Mile markers off by .3 miles, do to a turn around cone be dropped to short

Overall I thought the race was well put on for a smaller race. It started in an industrial park and then took you on some of Charlotte’s greenways which are pretty well done. Most of the course feels like you are running through the trees. There are some gravel sections with really loose gravel, not well packed.
Since it was a smaller race you could find yourself alone at some points, so some better signage was needed for some of the turns.
Not a whole lot of crowd support, again do to the small local nature of the race.
Swag was a shirt and a medal so nothing really outside the norm. I remember seeing something about ice towels, but those were not given out if they were on course. Also, there was beer at end of race, but not a whole lot of food.

This was a wonderful race. The course was downhill and beautiful. It was in the 50s as well which was very nice. Don’t let “trail race” scare you most of the course is well packed and cleared trail. There is one small down hill section that gets a little rockier, but only for a short time.
The swag was really just the t-shirt and medal which are nice, just no extras. There is great food and water at the finish line and then a fun after (with beer) part in town when the marathon finished.
If you are looking for a fun South Dakota race this is a good choice!
