Frederick is a small, historic city and I enjoyed running through the historic downtown area and seeing beautiful homes. The course had gently rolling hills throughout with the exception of a short, moderately steep hill in the last mile, just before entering the Fair Grounds. There’s also a unique aspect of finishing on a gravel racing track. Having stands for the spectators to cheer from was fun.

One way this race could be improved is with the water stations and volunteer training. It’s a small thing – it’s useful when volunteers call out “water” or “gatorade” to help runners know what’s in the cups. Some volunteers did this but others did not.

I highly recommend this race if you’re looking for an event with easy logistics, friendly volunteers/ locals, and enjoy historic small cities. I plan to be back, for sure.

Thanks, Frederick!

What a great race! The production for the BIH Half is excellent. During the weeks leading up to the race, the team sent out several helpful emails with all of the info you need for the expo, parking on race day, and the race itself.

The expo was small and nice to walk through and packet pick-up is quick if you go outside of peak hours. I especially enjoyed the whoopie pie!

Race day runs smoothly as the parking attendants and fire police make sure you go the right way. It was a humid and hot day this year, so I was thankful for the plentiful water stops and coolers with ice.

Of course, staying for the post-race community picnic is a must if you have time. Lancaster County knows how to do a country picnic well. The sense of community in this race comes through and is not to be missed. BIH Half truly is a unique and special race.

This is a well-run event. The half-marathon had corrals, which I appreciated, and the start was well-organized. I greatly appreciated the friendliness of the volunteers, especially at the water stops and finish. They did an excellent job.

The medals for these races were great. If you did a challenge or the marathon you got an extra large medal. They were impressive!

The post-race party at Grotto’s was fun and had a good atmosphere. It was crowded but everyone was friendly and accommodating. My friend and I had no trouble finding a seat at a shared table.

Free photos and a finish line video were a nice touch. Thanks, Coastal Delaware! I’ll be back.

I enjoyed my first time at this race. The course was fairly scenic. I especially enjoyed the views from the bridges. The post-race festival was quite nice, too. There were food vendors like Auntie Anne’s and Dunkin there.

2025 is this race’s 3rd year and I think there are areas where it can improve.

At certain points, there was some race congestion with the different distances. The 5k runners started about 15 minutes after the 10k and Half runners. Which meant the 5k runners were weaving through all of us.

More frequent signage for race direction will be useful, too. Ex – stay left. The leaders of the 5k faced some runner congestion from athletes heading the opposite way.

Overall, a great experience! Parking was easy and the medal + tech t-shirt were good quality.

This was my first year running Wineglass and I’ll be back in the future. The expo takes place in the Corning Museum of Glass in a mid-sized convention-style room. I definitely recommend going on a Friday if you’re able to avoid crowds.

There is plenty of parking available on race morning. The Centerway Parking Garage is very close to the finish and buses to starts, however, the entrances/ exits are congested. Fortunately, there are plenty of other parking options for you. The race program has them listed.

Everyone must take a bus to the start of the half or full. I woke-up early to get one of the first buses to the full marathon start and avoid the lines. At the starting line, the organizers put up a tent with chairs and water coolers for us to wait in. It is heated by still felt cool with the mid-40 temps outside. Get there early to grab a seat.

Plenty of porta potties are available at the starting line and along the course. I ended up needing to use them 2x during the race and didn’t have to wait in a line.

Water and Huma hydration mix is available approximately every 2 miles and at closer intervals over 20 miles. Huma gels are available four times along the marathon course.

Yes, the race does run along a highway in the middle miles. The noise was not as disruptive as I thought it would be. Occasionally, a driver would honk encouragement to us, which I appreciated. I enjoyed seeing the countryside and small towns we ran through. Families would sit in their driveways, play the theme from Rocky, and cheer us on.

An unexpected delight was the mobile support along the marathon course. There were 10-12 cyclists that had water, biofreeze, & snacks.

I really enjoyed the snack options available after the finish. Wegmans stocks a good variety of food with bagels, cookies, fruit, pizza, soup, & more.

If you’re looking for a small to mid-sized race with easy logistics this is an excellent option. Thanks, Corning!

The Harrisburg Half is great race to go to if you’re looking for small field size and prefer not a lot of frills. This year, packet pickup was offered at two running stores in the area and the day of the race.

City Island has plenty of parking with most of it being close to the start/ finish line. Aid stations were stocked with small, 7 oz water bottles. Nothing else was offered so make sure to bring your own drink mix and race nutrition if that’s what you prefer.
Most of the course was along Riverfront Park. There were many opportunities to admire the Susquehanna River. Volunteers were at every turn to make sure runners went the correct way. They were very helpful!

Post race, there are some snacks available near the finish line in a covered area with plenty of seating.

This is a great no frills race if you’re running your first half or want to get in some training.

NOTE: This year the course was not USATF certified because of year-to-year course changes and construction in the city.

Overall, the Paris Marathon is a great race. The number of historical monuments and buildings you pass is amazing. This was my first time in Paris as well as my first time running this marathon.

On race day, I was in the last wave of 4:30 + runners. Our scheduled start time was at 11:10am. Volunteers would start portions of our corral every minute or so to space us out. I was near the front of the wave and started at 11:14am.

Aid stations along the course are spread out every 5k. Paris is becoming more sustainable so they give water bottles instead of cups of water. This helped me fill my handheld water bottle more easily. The food at stations were things like crackers, croissants, & bananas. Aid stations in the 2nd half of the race were running out of some of the food and bottles of water.

Support along the course is fairly good. My Airbnb host explained that it’s not as common in France for people to cheer for runners they don’t know. At the busier areas, some people did do this though. I believe this is slowly changing and I definitely appreciated their shouts of “Courage!”

Except for the start and finish areas (and some intersections), the course isn’t blocked off with tape or barriers. Spectators would crowd portions of the course, making it more narrow for runners. I think sometimes they thought the green “most direct route” line was the place they were to stand. Despite this, most of the roadways are wide and had enough room for all runners. I do hope they block off more of the course in the future. It was a pain when spectators and tourists would cross the course and impede runners.

There are elements of race production that can be improved, but overall, Paris Marathon is an excellent race and worth doing for the beauty of Paris. I would consider doing this race again.

I enjoyed almost every aspect of this race. The marathon course scenery is excellent. It was nice to run next to the James River as well as through many neighborhoods. There are several long, gradual hills along this course. I appreciated the downhill finish. It helped me stretch my legs and provided a mental boost.

Most of the marathon course was spectated well, however, there were a few “slow spots” with only a handful of spectators. The aid stations were plentiful and I appreciated that some of the volunteers would help me fill my hand held water bottle.

By far, my favorite part along the course were the cheer zones and groups. You KNOW when you’ve passed the November Project and Lululemon. Excellent job cheering!

This year’s half-marathon (2023) was my first time running the Flying Pig. I’d seen it recommended in magazines and online for years. It’s definitely a fun one! The crowd support and volunteers were excellent. The course was scenic with a good mix of a steady climb (miles 6-8) and downhills. I especially enjoyed running into Kentucky and back into Cincinnati.

Watching the races (5k, 10k, Flying Fur) on Saturday and walking around the festival in Smale Park was a lot of fun.

As other reviews mention, there was a thunderstorm for about 30 minutes of the race. While I appreciate that race organizers started the race on time to get runners out of the corrals, I wish they would have delayed the start instead and had us shelter in place before the start. Running over metal bridges with lightning was uncomfortable.

I had no clue a voluntary shelter in place notification had been given until AFTER I finished running.

One other suggestion, have volunteers in the “pig pens” (starting corrals) to indicate the start/ end of each corral.

Overall, an excellent race that I recommend for runners who want an overall fun experience and a scenic course. Thank you, Flying Pig team!
