This race was a well organized run from start to finish. The organizers did a great job to make the whole experience run smoothly. From packet pickup to the finishers celebration area, it’s a challenging run with a few hills but mostly flat running surfaces! It’s definitely a run I will be participating in for years to come. My first 10K!!!

From the expo, to race morning, to the post race celebration the Hattiesburg Half marathon was well organized, hassle free and filled with helpful people and smiling faces. The course was mostly shaded, fair and interesting and lined along the way with lots of people supporting us, bands, a DJ and plenty of yelling happy people. The post race food was so good (chicken and waffles!). I ran as a pacer and didn’t really know what to expect – I’ll definitely be back next year.

A massive shout-out goes to the Race Director and the entire organizing committee. From registration to the finish line, the event ran like clockwork. Managing a field of 1,700 runners from across 31 different states is no small feat, yet the logistics felt seamless. The course itself provided a great tour of the city, well-supported by enthusiastic volunteers and clear markings.

This race takes you thru most of the old town of Hattiesburg with some new changes going over one of the pretty bridges that gets you past the railroad tracks. No getting stopped by trains now! Then it takes you thru the Avenues to the Zoo. Watch for the Giraffe’s! Then on to the campus of USM where the Golden Eagles sore. Next hit the trace for the down hill back to downtown where the after party takes place in the new Commons. Great race and always a great time.

This was my pick for Mississippi and I could not have chosen better! The race communication was good. The expo was a very easy process with the essentials and some of the friendliest people!
Race morning had ample free parking for everyone and indoor bathroom locations. The race starts downtown near a beautiful theater.
And then the course. The town SHOWED up! So many volunteers and spectators cheering you on everywhere! The police did not rush you through intersections, instead they happily closed the road and cheered you on! There were some firefighters doing the half marathon in their gear which was super inspiring also. I got to the end and I felt like I won the race with all of the cheering (and honestly I didn’t even come close!). The medals are gorgeous and there was a lovely little finish festival at the end. This was once of my favorite races ever!

I ran as the 10:30/mile pacer for the half marathon. There were lots of changes this year and mostly for the better. The race expo/packet pick up was a breeze. The course utilized a new bridge (twice) which was somewhat of a challenge. There were several other small hills as well. There was a lot more of the course on the campus of USM which was nice. The water stations were well staffed and there was plenty of volunteers throughout the course to help navigate. The post race festival was in a new park and was much improved, which several great food options and live music. I would say that this race was very much improved this year.

Not the easiest course as there are a few hills, but not horrible. The scenery is nice in spots: The downtown start/finish area, the zoo, and running through USM’s campus. Other than that it is mostly neighborhoods. There were a few cheer sections that I enjoyed, but there could be more. The water stations were pretty frequent with the exception of the last 4 mile stretch. I did like that they offered gels at several of them. The finish festival was great as they offered several food and drink options. Nice medal and comfy shirt.

Difficulty – this race course had some serious hills and lots of them. And now that I think about it – not enough corresponding downhills 😅 it was also an incredibly windy day and it seemed no matter the direction we turned, it was blowing against us. This is NOT a fast/flat course. Don’t believe it if you read it (like I did).
Scenery – not awful but not exciting. Ran through some neighborhoods and through USM campus and an asphalt running trail. Downtown was pretty but only there for a short moment.
Production – there seemed to be several miles that weren’t marked. Maybe I missed them, but that’s unlikely considering I was looking for them. Lol! There also seemed to be long section with no water station. It seems like from maybe 7 to 11? I don’t know for sure but I do know we were desperate for a water stop and the lady beside me agreed it had been a long time since we had one. Then when we arrived there were no cups left. Thankfully I had a bottle to refill but others were just having to put their face under the spout.
Swag – nice medal, soft shirt.
My performance – because it was my first half, my main goal was to finish – my hope was to finish around 2:45. I think I definitely could have without the hills/wind. I knew there were hills but didn’t realize it was that bad. Some other reviews called it fast/flat or mostly flat. I would have definitely picked a different course for my first. But I don’t regret it 🙂

The race started downtown, with professional production, good build-up, corral and launch into a scenic city course.
This race weekend was a sweet first time in Hattiesburg, leaving a yearning to go back again and run this one in the future.

This is a hometown race for me. I have ran the 5K several times, but this was my first 10K. The start line is in a downtown setting and can be quite crowded for the first mile. I like that there were several pre-race snacks to choose from. Packet pick-up is available on race day. The course is mostly flat and take you through neighborhoods and the zoo. There are several places where you intersect the half marathon course, so pay close attention to the blue arrows. The bathroom and water stations were great and well staffed. The finish line was well attended and the medals are always superior. The finish fest has a few really good food (pizza and chicken) options as well as drink options from a few local breweries that are included with your entry fee. Overall, this is a great small town race.

I lived in MS for 10 years and did many races in this state and the surrounding areas and this one is a hidden gem! It is definitely one of my favorites, due to the strong community support. Hattiesburg is a little over an hour from the MS Gulf Coast and ~1.5 hours from New Orleans, so you could definitely make a destination race out of it.

This course is primarily flat. Only a few mile marks. The course is inaccurately measured (probably with a car or GPS). No body knows. The course has a lot of turns. I would not travel and spend money to run a race that is not accurately measured. If you run a personal best it won’t mean anything.
