Join the annual Run Sunset Beach of the BAM! Race Series in Sunset Beach North Carolina! BAM is short for #BigAssMedals and these finisher medals do not disappoint. Sunset Beach is a beautiful coastal island in SE North Carolina with a beautiful waterfront park, shaded golf course communities, an incredible bridge over the intracoastal waterway and unforgettable oceanfront views on the island! We host a half marathon, 10K, 5K & 1 Mile in April when the average temperatures are a High 67 and a Low of 59. Sunset Beach is ranked one of the top beaches in the World by National Geographic!
Over the years, finisher swag has featured surfboards, flip flops, glass, lockets, artistic connecting medals, a pirate theme, mosaic designs, and much more – we change it up each year to bring unique medals but this year might top them all. We hope you enjoy them!

This is one of the “Big A$% Medal Series” put on by Coastal Race Productions. And yes, yes they are!
Loves: shirts this year ( they’re going back to soft raglan next year, but I prefer the wick dry they used this year), medal, on course volunteers, packet pickup, beer/ cider, course design (pretty nice, not too many out and back sections, even if the bridge is at the end)
Not as fond of: no- see-ums ( when they say bring bug spray, they mean it). Ran out of food before the last 20 of us crossed the line. Most other vendors were packing up before the course time limit of 1030 ( thank God the beer was still there).

The name of the series says it all. The medals are big and beautiful. The shirts are nice and comfortable. The view when running over the bridge is nice but the rest of the course is bland. I was a little disappointed as these races do tout “beach” and “scenic” run. The organization was not bad. We got there early and were able to find a great parking spot and pick up my bib without a wait. Beer and BBQ were tasty. This was my second in the series for this year. I am really looking forward to the last two races. I plan on doing the half marathon for all of the series next year.

This is about half marathon 26 of my half marathons in every state and this was by far the worst-organized. I would not even pin the blame on COVID (I have run other races during COVID including some of my favorites). There were scarce water stations throughout the course, about every 3-4 miles; there was no first aid or even paper towels (I bloodied up my hand and knee pretty badly and had to run 7.5 miles with the wound exposed — at the finish line they had nothing either); they promised us race pajama pants which I thought was cool but they never showed up. And beyond all that, the course itself was bad, on the side of the road wrestling with traffic and really not scenic, & for a race that calls itself Sunset Beach there is very, very little of the beach to be seen (maybe a little bit of sand between some houses). There were bugs that were incessantly biting prior to the race as well. The medal is pretty cool, not gonna lie – clearly they have the majority of their organization team in the medal department. Ultimately if you are going to do this race, the one positive I will say is – amazing coffee nearby. Otherwise, there are better races in the state!

The course was pretty easy and fun with a few hilly portions when running across the bridge but overall it was fast and flat! It would have been even more beautiful on a sunny day!
The Bling for this race will probably never be beat! The medal is as big as my face and it’s beautiful and sparkly! I would run the race just for the medal and T-shirt!
Second BAM race nicer than the first.

Well organized. Weather conditions made for a cooler run but the rain at times was a bit much. The BAM swag is as advertised. Cannot wait to finish the other two. Enjoyed the enthusiasm of the volunteers and the organizers. Very impressed with the volunteers being there considering the weather. I would recommend this race and will look at running it again.
