This was my 3rd marathon, the first two being CIM and the Oakland Marathon. I thought the SF Marathon was actually pretty great. My favorite part of the city to run in is Golden Gate Park, so I was glad a portion of it was there. It was super early, but I liked that too. My favorite time to run is early so there’s no competition with traffic and other pedestrians and its nice and cool. I trained with a group and had a couple friends come out to cheer, so I thought there was actually pretty good spectator support. Perhaps my expectations are low? The course was challenging, but run-able and what I expected. The bridge was a bit fogged in, but that’s what you get in San Francisco! I PR’d so maybe I’m overly optimistic, but I thought most everything was solid. I did not stick around after the race, so cant comment on the festivities.

Would definitely recommend CIM to all runners. Might not be the most scenic course but its very well organized and net downhill (some small rolling hills the first 16 or so miles) and the community comes out to support the event. It was great to have people cheering for you every 500 feet despite the rain. If you have a crew you’re trying to spot in the crowd, I’d recommend balloons or some other prop that will stand out. Lots of bathrooms, water stations were well organized (though I opted to carry my own hydration pack). The post-race finish festival was just ok… I thought for such a big race it would be better, but I guess it’s all about the race 🙂

Wonderful representation of the beauty of SF. Aside from the bridge, most of the course was open and the runners had lots of energy and great attitudes. It did start raining towards the end of the run which made for a soggy post-race event but I PR’d so I was happy 🙂 The beginning of the race was a bit of a nightmare – the gear drop off line was super long, as was the bathroom line. And both were set up so they ran into the starting line. Worked out in the end but could have been re-positioned for a more successful flow.

Beautiful run through the Marin Headlands with stunning views of the ocean and the GG Bridge. The race was well organized except for the parking situation. I parked where the pre-race emails advised and took a bus to the starting line, however some people were confused, as the parking lot was quite far from the starting line, and parked along the road, which is apparently not allowed. They were advised they might get parking tickets. The run itself was HARD but really fun. Diverse terrain and a BIG hill at the end… I was very happy to come down after climbing that one! First time running this race and I really enjoyed it.

Super fun, scenic run! I love trail races and Inside Trail always puts on a good race. I was under prepared for this one – this run is supposed to be significantly easier than the Tilden trail but it felt harder. Lots of hills but the end is all downhill… that always helps 🙂
