Packet pick-up is super easy. There are a lot of runners doing this race so getting your bib early is key because the store and event pick-up can get crowded.
The course is always nice because it has no loops and no repeats. There were a lot more spectators than usual (at least to me) which was super cool to see.
The weather was nice and it was actually pretty warm to start, and it didn’t get too hot as the day went on. As one that has allergies, I can’t say that the weather didn’t do much for me there. I was a mess at mile 10.
This year the finishers had a Bill Snyder bobblehead which I found to be a fantastic alternative to a medal. AND I’M A KU FAN.
The events at the finish line were super great. Seeing yourself on the stadium big screen as you finish on the 50-yard line on the football field is always fun.

Getting there was easy. So many friendly volunteers lead you right to a parking spot and a very quick walk to packet pickup.
The hype crew had an A+ game getting everyone ready.
The course had plenty of aid stations with great volunteers.
Once you get past the start, the scenery is okay. But again, the plentiful aid stations make it a non factor. Far from ever a boring section.
There are a couple of 180 degree turns but it is on a wide enough road so it’s easy. Plus, there are exciting spectators at each one cheering you on.
The course is very fast. I used this race as a training run in preparation for a race in two weeks and I still managed to hit a great result.
Amazing people and incredible experience and I can not recommend this race enough.

Packet pickup was easy (I did mine the day prior). The race HQ was at a community center which served as the halfway aid station. This was nice as it kept the drop bags dry from the drizzling rain.
The pre-race instructions were great and left no confusion. And even more so was I could feel the pride of those that put the race on.
With the course being on mostly rural roads, there wasn’t any spectators (except a bunch of cattle and two donkeys, which I appreciated) but there was so much support from the rad volunteers at each aid station.
The course starts on a paved road for a short stretch before it turns into hard packed gravel. The hills aren’t too steep but there are plenty of them so it ads up. The course isn’t winding but there are plenty of 90 degree turns to keep it from being dull.
The race is in early April so it is very possible to catch different weather conditions during the race. This year started with cool temperatures with light drizzle. The precipitation stopped and it stayed cool for most of the race until quick downpour followed by warm sunshine. So a change of socks and shirt at the end of the first loop was a good thing.
The buckle is very nice and proudly displayed and the race shirt is soft and looks great.

Parking was a breeze and it is super close the start/finish line. Plenty of area near the start to leave a drop bag that doesn’t take you far off course. I only knew one person there but wouldn’t know that as the race started because there were so many competitors and staff cheering everyone on throughout the race. Super fun and friendly atmosphere.
There was some rain the night before which left some small sections of the course a soggy and muddy mess. It was no a big issue if you were smart and slowed down and not afraid of getting your feet wet.
The elevation is small enough that it was not something to worry about. Until going around the loop enough times and it starts to add up.
The trai is all dirt (other than a wooden path if you choose to take it.
I have been able to get off course even when someone says in a pre race briefing, but there was none of that with this course. It was well marked.
It didn’t matter if I was getting passed or in the rare occurrence I passed someone, there was always an exchange of encouragement.
I was just shy of reaching the goal I set for myself but I was filled with gratitude from the nice interactions with runners and staff and the beautiful scenery as the sun came up that I was pleased at the end of it.
The medal was very specific to the event and was high quality. It’s a fun medal that sticks out among my other medals.
The race photographer was busy taking lots of photos at many different locations. I can’t wait to see them.
Highly recommend this race.

Really good turnout which was nice. The course is a 10-mile loop, and all runners began at the same time which made for a very crowded first loop. There aren’t a whole lot of passing opportunities with the narrow trails. Unless you know the race loop, it could get confusing as the trail were marked with utility marking flags. The course is super challenging and fun which I really liked. The page on UltraSignup was very misleading as the photos and description didn’t match the 2026 race. The page reads a party atmosphere, yet the email post-race called it a “low key event”.
The race shirt was a nice hooded shirt. I did the 20-mile race, and I got a approx. 3″ diameter wooden plaque which cracked before I even got home. If you’re in the area at the time, give it shot for the course alone. I traveled a two-hour drive and I didn’t feel it was worth it.

The late start (10:00) was welcomed as an out of towner and first timer.
The weather played nice other than crazy cold.
I did have a moment of being in the zone when I hit a rare part of asphalt and totally missed a turn causing me to run an extra .44 miles. I guess I needed a bigger sign advising of the turn back into the trail.
The staff and other runners were rad and although I didn’t know anyone, there were handshakes and fist bumps afterwards.
The hot chili after the race was a welcome treat. The medal was unique (I mean that in a good way).
Would have been great to have a porta john near the start as the restrooms were closed for the winter.

Parking was easy but once I was parked, knowing where to go was confusing as there were no signs of a race where parking was. Once I went in a building where you get your packet (I got mine two days before the race) i could see the start line and the booths and so on.
The pre-race activities were amazing with the national anthem and the playing of taps.
The course had some very steep hills which made for a challenge I appreciated and went through the beautiful campus.
The race shirt was a very comfy t-shirt with a good design and the medal is of high quality and very cool (the cool part is a little biased as I am a big fan of all things KU. And I don’t live in Lawrence).
There were photographers there although I had only one of me and not even crossing the finish line.
I managed to have a good performance and took 1st place in my division. The prize was a pick your prize from a table of outstanding items. Looking forward to doing it again. Hopefully it is a little warmer because 2025 race day was a cold one.

I got to the race location pretty early and parking was super easy. If you aren’t familiar with the area, the maps in the race packet make it super easy to find your way around.
Packet pick-up was easy. The only options however were the day before and the morning of the race. The swag was a so-so t-shirt (the design was cool but the quality of shirt wasn’t great), a small case for band aids and a sticker.
The race starts in historic and beautiful Massachusetts Street. After a few blocks, the course turned on to residential areas with lots of potholes and roundabouts. The course went on to a gravel path and while on the path, which was not very wide, you have to do a hard 180 degree turn. There was a section of the course through a park with not a whole lot to look at. The part of the park was concrete but the path was very wide.
The course was the perfect amount of challenging for a half marathon. A lot of turns and not too flat and not too hilly.
I was beyond impressed with the community turn out between the volunteers helping out blocking intersections and aid stations as well as the amazing spectators. The amount of signs and people cheering was so great and made for a super fun experience.

This race was my first time ever running an a dirt trail so I didn’t really know what to expect. The first hill straight up took my lunch money but I managed to get myself together to enjoy the race and have a decent finish.
The process of signing up and packet pick-up was super easy.
Parking at the event was easy (but don’t drive your fancy lowrider because it is in the park).
The race is run on a nature preserve so there are no aid stations with beverages in cups so bring a vessel. This makes for a beautiful area to look at while you’re in a race.
I am looking forward to doing this again.

Parking at the stadium is easy. Makes for a very early morning as participants are bussed to the start line far in advance of the start of the race. This also means you start at one side of town and finish at the other which in turn (pun intended) means there is no point where you turn around to finish. Which is different than a lot of races and I appreciate.
Plenty of water stations with water and Gatorade and even some handing out GU.
The first eight miles is a straight run with minor hills (I don’t even feel the hills) through the pretty Flint Hills. There is an entire lane blocked off for runners so it is not cramped. After the eight miles, you hit civilization and crowds as you hit downtown.
The last couple miles are at a steady incline which if you are not ready for can take a lot out of you. Finishing on the 50 yard line is a really cool feature but that means you gotta climb the stairs to get out of the stadium. Because the parking is right outside the stadium means you don’t have far to go back to your vehicle.
There are a lot of photographers throughout the race and the quality of photos are very good.
There were a few vendors at the finish line but I am surprised there aren’t more.

There was plenty of communication leading up to the race which as a first time participant was nice.
Parking could be hard to find if you don’t get there early but it’s not terrible.
Check in is at the beautiful gardens portion of the school which also served as the pre and post race festivities.
The course has around 140 feet of elevation and is super fast (so I’m calling it flat). There are a lot of energetic volunteers on the course and at the start/finish line which made for an enjoyable experience.
The course runs through K-State campus with a section of it on the old stadium track.
The finishers medal was very high quality and looks beautiful.
I signed up for this race because it is local and I was using it as a training run but I find myself already looking forward to doing it again if the time allows.
