I was disappointed that the announcement went out that the first half marathon no longer went over the bridge. That being said, I greatly enjoyed the challenging course and views that came along with it.

I was disappointed in some of the pre-race information. I never got an email with rwce instructions which was frustrating. I didn’t love the new Biofreeze branding… bring back the blue that we all associate with the event! Overall though things were great and smooth.

I am a newish runner wth CIM
having been my second marathon. I knew I would be one of the last to finish, so generous course time was very important to me. As a participant who exceeded the course limit, I still felt as though I got the same treatment as the other runners, with the exception being one aid station who had packed up all their cups by the time I got there but had pitchers of water and would fill my backpack up if I wanted.

The cheering and support from the volunteers was nothing like I’ve ever seen before. They were engaged and positive and cheered me by name (names were on our bibs), which made the 6:41 I was on my feet for feel that much more amazing and powered me through some tough and emotional miles.

The expo was well organized with a great array of vendors. Race morning was clear and organized and the event swag was awesome. Love that the event was sustainable with their strides towards staying green. It was an honor to run this as my second marathon and I’ll be back in the future!

I love this event and ran the year before as my first marathon, but did the half in 2017. The weather was in no ones favor, but obviously not controlled by the event organizers. The move to the new Courthouse square made for a much more open atmosphere and I loved the finish line crowd, which was full of spectators for a good chunk of running. One thing that I experienced this year but not last year was that the path is a little narrow and so the half marathoners who were running side by side made it hard to navigate around, especially with the four hour marathon runners racing by too. That was frustrating for me. Other than that, great race swag and expo and post race food.

The course was beautiful and the volunteers were amazing before the race started. The bonus that gave me an extra boost was the live accordion player walking around before the race started. Accordion music is a huge part of my life and it was a unique aspect of the race that I loved. The three struggles for me were the uneven dirt and navigating around so many dirt holes and uneven clots of dirt, and the point where runners intersected depending on if they were starting their first lap or coming around the bend. I felt that slowed me down because we were intersecting and trying not to avoid one another. Additionally, I wished that the 5k and the 10k had started at the same time because as a moderately paced runner (10:45 average) I was getting lapped by the REALLY fast 5k runners because of the five minute delay, and it was cumbersome in more narrow areas. Other than that the course was great, the post-race festival was great and great swag. Would be interested in doing the 5k next year, as I did the 10 this year and it is always fun to try something new.
