If you stress about race logistics, then I recommend staying at the Sheraton or Courtyard Marriott by Sloan Park. The buses pick up right outside your door and the finish line is minutes away.

There were some technical difficulties with this race but overall (PA system at the start failed, issues with tracking app, getting final results), they did a good job. It’s definitely a PR course. At mile 19 they ran out of cups when I passed through, but otherwise the aid stations were well-stocked. The BEST part about this race (IMO) was the Creamies popsicles. I am a new fan.

From what I observed, there were plenty of tent sites and RV sites (no hookups) when i picked up my packet on Saturday.

Getting on base race morning took about 45 minutes from my hotel in Las Cruces. I arrived around 5:00 am and had plenty of time to relax, prep, etc.

If you have any doubts about starting with the runners because you think you’re not fast enough or plan to run/walk, erase those doubts. Get in line with the runners otherwise it will be difficult to get around all those marching. It also makes it easier to navigate the water stops/bathrooms because there are less people.

Don’t be afraid of the sand pit, embrace it! It was about 3/4 of a mile. I broken my fibula 2 months earlier so I didn’t want to risk rolling an ankle so I walked it (both times). Walking it gave me the opportunity to meet and talk with marchers on the second loop.

I want to do this race again, when I’m trained and with the original course that includes Mineral Hill.

Thank you White Sands for putting on this race.

I stayed at the Hotel Turrene le Marais which was a quick metro ride to the start, and a short walk from the finish. My friend and I stopped at Land and Monkey for lattes after the race and watched the runners go by.

The most difficult part about this race was getting in my corral. I was in the 1:50 wave and walked back and forth several times after being told I couldn’t enter (after being directed by volunteers). The second most difficult part was waiting for the bathrooms. This is always an issue at races but this was the worst I’ve ever experienced.

Otherwise, the race was great. It was crowded (what I meant by full in my title). Runners from previous years mentioned running out of water. This was never an issue and I drank from cups they provided. They offered a lot of real fuel choices. Other runners were also disappointed in the course, which I understand the disappointment but if you look at the course map, it should never have been an expectation to run by landmarks. I enjoy the course as it got me out of the city for a bit. It was flat, only a small section of cobblestone and had I not broken my fibula 7 weeks prior, felt it could have been close to a PR course for me.

I really enjoyed this course. You started in a working cherry orchard, ran along the west Grand Traverse bay, and finished on Front Street. The views were amazing and I lost track of time checking out the lake houses along the way. It was limited to 500 participants so it didn’t feel crowded until we merged with the other race distances. Everyone was friendly, online results were instant (you scanned the QR code on your bib), and it was easy for my daughter to pick up her age group award.

Downside: no electrolytes on the course, only water stops. We were fortunate the day was cooler and overcast. Had it been sunny and just a few degrees warmer, runners would of had more issues. General lack of communication…when we picked up our packets were weren’t told there was a drop bag station, it seemed hard to find the information about shuttles and where/when to pick up our packets. And the saddest part for me, when I finished there weren’t any cherries left.

Fargo is a fun city. There was a lot more going on that I expected and the weather was perfect! A group of us rented an AirBnb and enjoyed exploring the area. My piece of advice is get to the expo early. We were there before it opened and were let in a few minutes early. We came back around 3:00 to hear Dakotah Lindwurm and Dick Beardsley speak, and when we left, the line was wrapped around the building. No idea how quickly it moved, but it didn’t appear to move that fast.

Parking for the race was very easy to get to and there was plenty of it when we arrive about 45 before the race.

I loved the race jacket we were given, even though it was big (I requested the smallest size). Post-race I heard about the green bananas, but unfortunately I never saw them or any post-race food (I did find water). I’m not sure how I missed it but I sure needed something after the race and ended up going through a drive-thru.

Would I do this race again? Probably not, but I did enjoy the town and appreciate the efforts the town and volunteers put in.

Logistically this was an easy race to navigate. Packet pickup up was quick, runner drop-off and bus loading was well organized, and post race meal/goodies were easy to find.

Course was nice and flowy. Not completely flat, a few downhills and slight uphills. It was only crowded in a few sections, otherwise you had plenty of room to navigate around others but never feel alone. It has all the potential to be a PR race. This was my daughter’s first half marathon and she said it was the perfect 1st half marathon.
