I was supposed to run this back in 2020 though it was cancelled due to the pandemic and my entry was deferred. I was planning to run in 2022 but had to cancel due to other circumstances and finally got to run for this year. Most of the course itself was pretty flat and easy until you got to the bridge, though the roads before then are bad and cracked or have lots of potholes. The 3 miles before the bridge are very industrial and aren’t scenic at all, you’ll just be running by Bart stations, graffiti and highways. The trail before the bridge does smooth out and gets cleaner. I think it would’ve been better to have the race start in Emeryville instead, West Oakland wasn’t good at all. I was also surprised by how small the group was, only about 1,000 runners compared to the other half’s I’ve run that have thousands more runners. The part on the Bay Bridge was nice and I liked the views and my photos on there. My finisher’s medal was beautiful, and you get a finisher’s cup too. Though that’s about it that I liked. I’m not sure if I would want to run this again, it’s very overpriced for what you get.

The course is beautiful and you get to run by Crissy Field, Fort Point, the Presidio hills and across the Golden Gate Bridge (without the tourists). I was a bit slower than usual since I had injured a muscle in the beginning, though the pain went away and I was still able to finish it (though I wish my time had been better)! Though I wish the photographers would’ve photographed the runners running on the bridge, other races I’ve done across the bridge have done this. Seems strange since running the bridge is their main selling point. I noticed there were some taken of the runners on the bridge but they were never sent with the photos at the end and were used for their marketing images instead. I did like their shirt designs for this year (though a short sleeve option for the half runners would’ve been good too) and the medals for both the half & 5K medal’s were very nicely designed as well. Running through the Presidio hills before the bridge didn’t bother me much, though I had hill training and might be challenging for other runners. Might be worth trying once.

I ran the 10 mile event for the first time this year (was also my first Mermaid run) and I loved it! We got to watch the sunrise as we ran and the scenery was very beautiful. I found I enjoyed this race more than others that also go across the bridge (I think because of the shorter distance, many of the others that cross the bridge are half or full marathons). You start near Crissy Field, go up the Presidio hills, then down again by the fields and then back up the hill to the Golden Gate Bridge. You get to cross both sides of the bridge which was awesome and it was a clear sunny day (you could also see the mist surrounding the city and Marin from the bridge which looked gorgeous in the photos). After, you go down to Fort Point and then back down to Crissy field where you finish. I loved the shirt design, though wished the graphics had been on the front of the shirt instead of the back, though the medal was very nice and we got necklaces at the end too. Anyway, I really enjoyed this race and definitely want to run in a Mermaid series race again.

I enjoyed this race, it was well organized and the route is good for beginners. You can park in the Bay St. Mall or IKEA and then take the free shuttle that will take you to the race starting point. The shuttles were simple to find and dropped us off plenty of time before the race. For the 5K you will go along the trail, across an overpass through Aquatic Park, down Shellmound Street and finish inside of the Bay Street Mall. Nice and simple. I also loved the 510k shirt design and medal design for this year, I think it’s perfect for the East Bay. I think next year I will do the 10K course since apparently it has more scenic views of the bay instead of the 5K route. I enjoyed this race though and definitely want to do it again next year (along with the other Run the Bay races).

I really enjoyed the scenery in this race and was glad that I chose the 10K run since you get to see a lot more scenery than on the 5K runner course. The course was mostly flat (though the elevation occasionally changes) which sometimes made it feel even longer while I was running. I did enjoy the race though and we got to see the sunrise too which was beautiful. I just wish the shirt was a different color instead of white and that the medals or lanyards for them said which distance you ran (the medals were nice though). The swag we got at the packet pickup pretty good too (had a tote bag, two drinks and other products inside to try). I had fun at this race and definitely want to run it again next year.

I ran this race for the first time and found the course to be very good for beginners. Most of the course is pretty flat and starts near the ferry building, goes down all of the piers past Fisherman’s Wharf, Fort Mason and Marina Green and stops before Crissy Field. It was pretty foggy in the morning so we couldn’t see most of the views until the end of the race when it started to clear up more. I liked the medal design though with the packet pickup came with a shirt too (only a bib was at the pickup). Though at the end of the race we got at tote bag too and the after party was very well done. I definitely want to run this again next year and try the 12k (hopefully it will be less foggy). I recommend trying this race though.
