This was a well organized race with a great expo. The course is interesting with 2 border crossings, the ambassador bridge, the tunnel and Belle Island. It had a few hills but was mostly flat. There is good spectator turn-out and support throughout the race.

This is a well run race that begins and ends smoothly. The course is relatively flat and runs through several good Chicago landmarks. The course is well supported although one additional water station on the back half would be good especially when the weather is hot and humid as it was in 2019. Several years ago, they moved the race start into the stadium which I think adds to the uniqueness of this race. The last five miles are run on the lakefront trail which is also a highlight to the Chicago running scene. This is also an easy race to get to and there are, of course, many nearby hotels for people coming in for the race.

This race is so inspiring… the monuments, the blue mile, the marines staffing the water stations. This is a must do experience. It is well run, and easy to get to the start and finish. That last hill is a killer, but when you get to the top, the marines that cheer you on are fantastic!

I volunteered as a course marshall at mile marker 25 and loved watching Sir Mo fly by me to win this race and break a record. As a former runner of this race, I appreciated seeing the front of the pack. The race is well run and the city of Chicago does a fantastic job. Great hotel and food options near the race.

This was my first trail race, and I really enjoyed it. Small field, but the people running the race were fantastic…very nice, supportive, and encouraging. The weather was misty which made the hills slippery and challenging. Great variation in the terrain with some rolling hills, forest single-track, bog crossings, and open fields. It was my first trail race, but it won’t be my last.

This is a good point-to-point half with good support along the course. Start is at the Starved Rock park so begins with a couple hills but then flattens out and the run along the river is comfortable. The race has a smaller field, but is well supported.

This race is often included in the list of “most beautiful” half marathons. And it’s true, the scenery of the horse farms is nice. But those horse farms are mostly located on rolling hills…22 of them by my count. And some of those hills are REALLY tall. This is also a race run mostly on back roads, so if you enjoy a large crowd of spectators to help push you through, you likely won’t have that. It’s a well run race, but the expo is small and the field is runners is small compared to some city-based races. I enjoyed this one, but would have done better if I have been able to train for those hills which I just hadn’t done and can’t do well where I live. So, I recommend this if you can prepare for it properly.

This was my first half marathon, and I later discovered that the benefit of the Rock-n-Roll series is that you know what to expect from a race. The Expo is well done, the race begins and ends smoothly, and the support on the course is frequent. They didn’t have as many acts or bands as I had expected from Rock-n-Roll, but there was still plenty of fun on the course. This is run in the Chicago loop, so the course distance will track a little longer than 13.1 since there are many turns and the field is large. This is the only race I have ever repeated.
