  • I run because:

I run because I can. I was an NCAA Division 1 college soccer player and was always told how to workout, what to eat, and how to live. Once I retired, I enjoyed the freedom that running gave me and loved how I was in control. Running is what keeps me sane (but can also make me crazy). Meeting new people, visiting new cities, and pushing the body to the limit are what keep me going.

I was super excited for this race and for the most part, it delivered. It was as flat and fast as described and while the weather was cold, I found it to be perfect running weather. The first weekend in November is a great time for an Indianapolis race. This year it was sold out, which was awesome but the course was extremely overcrowded until the half-marathoners split off. Even after that, it seemed pretty congested for a while. The race directors cannot control this but there were a ton of potholes in the roads that made it dangerous for the ankles. The expo was not great and the course was not well supported. Miles 20-25 were terribly quiet and boring, right when you need the most support. The pace group leader for the 3:30 goal time did not run consistently and went out extremely fast. It was difficult to keep up while he weaved in and out of people. The city of Indianapolis is absolutely beautiful with great monuments. They advertised the race well throughout the city. Overall, it was a good experience and an excellent place to attempt to PR and/or qualify for Boston!

I may be biased but I have run a good amount of races and every single Cincinnati race has been superior to all others. The Queen Bee is no exception. Hands down, the BEST expo I have ever been to (8 half marathons and 3 full marathons). So many vendors, activities, speakers, demos, and performers. Easily could spend three hours at the expo itself. Half marathoners also received a long sleeve technical shirt, headband, great duffel bag, and a poster. They really take care of the runners from the beginning. The empower women theme is inspiring and pretty incredible. This race celebrates what women do and who they are. The course itself is incredibly well supported. I do not understand how the Cincinnati Flying Pig race organizers do it, but they have volunteers about every half mile. These are not disgruntled volunteers either. These people are singing, chanting, and yelling for every runner. One of the cooler experiences of racing. This race definitely gives you the coveted running high. I would recommend it time and time again and will run it as long as I am in town!

This run honors heart survivors and patients. It is pretty inspirational to be running next to someone who has received a new heart. As a race, it is really hilly, but the major hill is well supported by the crowds and everyone is pushing each other. Great big race that is for a greater purpose.

If you want to get a PR/BQ, this is an ideal race. The weather at this time of year is not too hot but can get humid! It is a smaller race so if you rely on crowd support to get you through, you might want to find another race. The people that were there volunteering were incredible and genuinely excited for the runners. The expo was so-so and post race celebration was not the best. I would not run this race again, but recommend it to those who want to explore a new part of Georgia.

I may be a little biased because this is my hometown but I will forever run this race until I can’t anymore. Crowd support, swag, hilly (but downhills make up for it), beautiful city, incredible expo, really everything you need in a race can be found at the Cincinnati Flying Pig. 10/10 recommend.

To be honest, there is nothing special about this race. It is super flat and the weather is typically great at this time, but there is nothing in my mind that stands out about it. That being said, I would run it over and over again. It is just a solid race that is easy to run and fun to prepare for and celebrate after. Birmingham is a really cool city and it proves to be a great little racecation. I recommend this race to really anyone. It is just a good race.

This is quite the race. It was my first marathon ever so my expectations were nonexistent. The expo is absolutely incredible. This race is always on a huge weekend in Nashville so navigating downtown and parking is a nightmare but that’s Nashville for ya. The race itself is extremely well supported. The city of Nashville comes out in full force. The neighborhoods along the course are beautiful. Don’t be caught off guard with the hills. By mile 8, I was wiped because of the elevation. This particular race day also had 90% humidity and 90 degrees. They had to move the start time earlier because it was dangerously hot. They also had to shut down the race early for safety concerns. I ended up with debilitating quad cramps and barely finished but was thankful for the experience. This race is incredible and I have run the 1/2 two times now since that first marathon. So much fun and extremely well organized. The Run Rock n Roll Races are always well put together.
